Job Description:

The State University of New York Maritime College is an undergraduate and graduate institution focused on engineering, business, science, and maritime transportation. The College proudly supports fifteen varsity sport teams represented by four different athletic conferences. The College is located at historic Fort Schuyler in Throggs Neck, New York, just 14 miles from midtown Manhattan.


POSITION SUMMARY:
SUNY Maritime Athletics is seeking a highly motivated and versatile individual to join our NCAA Division III football program as one of the first two full-time assistant football coaches that serves as the Assistant Football Coach and Athletic Operations Assistant. This full-time position plays a critical role in supporting the football program while also contributing to the day-to-day operations of the Athletic Department. The dual role reflects the department's commitment to developing a competitive football program while enhancing the overall efficiency and effectiveness of athletic operations. The Assistant Football Coach & Athletics Operations Assistant provides administrative, instructional, and recruiting support services under the direction of the head coach and athletic director.


POSITION DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND COMPETENCIES:

Assistant Football Coach Responsibilities:

• Assist the Head Football Coach in all aspects of program management, including practice planning, game preparation, and player development
• Develop and implement position-specific practice plans and strategies in alignment with the head coach's overall game plan
• Recruit and retain prospective student-athletes in alignment with the institution's academic and athletic standards
• Provide mentorship and academic support to student-athletes, fostering their holistic development
• Analyze game and practice footage using video software platforms to prepare scouting reports
• Uphold compliance with NCAA, conference, and institutional regulations

Athletic Operations Assistant Responsibilities:

• Assist with planning and executing departmental operations, including scheduling practices, games, and events across all athletic programs
• Support the logistics of team travel arrangements, including transportation, lodging, and meal planning
• Help manage the inventory, distribution, and maintenance of athletic equipment and supplies. Assist in coordinating facility usage and maintenance in collaboration with campus facilities staff. Participate in the planning and execution of departmental events such as fundraising initiatives, community outreach, and alumni engagement activities.
• Serve as a liaison between coaches, staff, and the Director of Athletics to ensure effective communication and coordination
• Attend all mandatory staff meetings for full time employees
• Home event supervision duties as assigned
• Completion of Campus Security Authority Training, HR Module Training, Van Driver Certification, NCAA Exam
• All other duties assigned by the Athletic Director

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

• Possess an Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
• Demonstrated football coaching experience at the intercollegiate level
• Knowledge of NCAA Division III rules
• Excellent interpersonal, teaching and communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to recruit student athletes, develop successful programs and maintain operations (budget, equipment ordering, NCAA eligibility, game management, etc.)
• Possession of a valid Driver's License. Must have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violation

Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate, in addition to the above, will:

• Possess a Master's degree from an accredited college or university in physical education or related area
• Coaching certification from national agency of issuance
• Exhibit prior experience with student-athlete recruitment or the evidence of potential for success in recruitment
• Demonstrate evidence of ability to work well with college-age student-athletes and proven ability to perform administrative aspects of the program
• Current Certification in First Aid, AED, and CPR

Additional Information:

Classification/Salary Range: The Assistant Football Coach & Athletic Operations Assistant is a UUP position. The anticipated salary range for the position is $41,328.00 to $45,000.00 annually, with an outstanding benefits package. For more information please see the UUP-FT-Benefits-at-a-Glance. Special Notes: This is a full-time college year (10 month) appointment UUP Position. Fair Labor Standard Acts (FLSA) Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously.
