Job Overview:

The NY Life Legal Department is seeking a real estate attorney with 5+ years’ experience to support NY Life Real Estate Investors, a team of approximately 150 investment professionals.

What You’ll Do:

Represent institutional mortgage, construction and mezzanine lenders/borrowers; advise on complex real estate finance transactions. Demonstrate expertise with intercreditor, co-lender, and participation agreements, including both pari passu and senior/subordinate structures. Strong experience with real estate funds and investment structures. Experience in a variety of equity transactions, including real estate acquisition and disposition, joint ventures, leasing, and asset management. Proficiency in development and construction matters, reviewing design, development and other construction-related contracts; basic knowledge of construction, zoning and land use law. Experience managing sophisticated commercial leasing deals across office, industrial, and retails sectors.

What You’ll Bring:

JD degree and admission to practice law in New York (required). 5+ years’ of relevant experience, either in a law firm or in-house. Excellent interpersonal, writing, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and concisely.  Attention to detail is essential. Strong initiative, dependability, motivation, and a team-oriented mindset.

Preferred Background:

Currently working in a law firm’s real estate group, with a majority of experience in this area. Candidates with experience in a financial institution’s in-house real estate legal department, in addition to law firm experience, are also encouraged to apply.​

Pay Transparency

Salary Range:  $122,500-$210,000 

Overtime eligible: Exempt 

Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes 

Sales bonus eligible: No 

Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual’s experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
