Summary:
Under General Manager’s supervision, the Assistant General Manager will coordinate the day-to-day activities of the Events Department and oversee other venue departments heads as assigned. Helps to facilitate optimum efficiency, maximize profits, and provide exceptional customer service by performing the following duties individually or through subordinate supervisors. Provide support to Capitol Federal Amphitheater as requested.
Responsibilities:
Implement facility policies and goals in accordance with the management contract, client’s objectives, and corporate policy.
Meet with department heads as assigned to review activity, operating, and sales reports. Determine changes to the programs and/or operations and oversee implementation with the department heads.
Negotiate contracts and agreements with suppliers, promoters and tenants for necessary activities and services at the facility.
Assign event leads and Manager on Duty on an on-going basis and distribute monthly event calendar.
Ensure successful event coordination activities by supervising and training Event staff.
Prepare Event Services department budget and CIP requests.
Attend director meetings. Conduct production meetings, weekly department meetings and event security meetings to discuss procedures, problems, and changes.
Ensure all codes, laws, ordinances, policies, procedures, risk management, safety precautions, rules, regulations, and emergency procedures are followed. Develop program to train all employees on fire/life safety and emergency procedures.
Assist in the preparation and negotiation of service agreements for event t-shirt security, event staffing, EMS, IATSE (stagehands), and other agreements as needed. Review contracts for compliance with event and/or government specifications and suitability for occupancy.
Assist in negotiation of third-party contracts.
Act as liaison between IATSE and the venue and assist however needed in contract negotiations.
Assist in the development of long-range plans and program objectives in accordance with the management contract and corporate policy.
Implement procedures within the departments to establish and maintain customer service standards that are designed to ensure a positive and professional image and generate repeat business.
Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and capital project budget for future repairs and improvements to the facility.
Assist in the preparation and implementation of our internal employee training.
Responsible for organizing and leading self-promoted community events.
Assist as needed and/or lead First Aide/CPR/AED training for all full-time staff and supervisors, including third party event partners.
Lead annual active shooter, bomb threat and severe weather training along with tabletop discussions.
Lead venue security committee and participate in safety committee.
Work with Events Staff to schedule and coordinate K-9 units for bomb detection sweeps as requested.
Conduct post-event operational and financial review and analysis.
Coordinate, implement and administer personnel development/training and safety/emergency procedures.
Work extended and/or irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Support ASM Global at Capitol Federal Amphitheater by providing event-related support both for advance calls and day of show, along with related setup and teardown of events.
Position requires the ability to work at all local ASM Global venues.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
Possess skills and experience in contract negotiation, business law, labor relations, union contracts, purchasing procedures, and supervising personnel.
Engage in much decision making that is generally governed by procedure and guided by policy.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and organizational ability.
Ability to anticipate problems and implement immediate corrective action.
Considerable knowledge of safety regulations and other federal, state, or local laws and regulations.
Strong orientation towards hospitality/customer service for entertainment industry.
Effective supervisory skills. Ability to deal effectively with personnel problems; to deal constructively with conflict; to motivate, provide counsel and execute applicable solutions.
Organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines. Work effectively under pressure and/or stringent schedule and produce accurate results.

Remain Flexible and adjust to situations as they occur.
Must be able to pass a background/credit check.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Directly supervises other Directors as assigned and the Events Department employees, including but not limited to Guest Experience Manager, Event Manager, and Event Coordinator. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with ASM Global’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding; disciplining employees in conjunction with Human Resources; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Minimum Five to Seven years’ industry experience.
Three (3) of those years as a director in an arena, convention center or stadium; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills and Abilities:Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and organizational ability.
Ability to work with and maintain highly confidential information is required.
Considerable knowledge of safety regulations and other federal, state, or local laws and regulations.
Ability to work simultaneously with a broad variety of vested interest groups and to foster a cooperative environment.
Proficient with or ability to learn AutoCAD.
Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices used in the successful management of entertainment or convention facilities of a similar description.
Ability to anticipate problems and implement immediate corrective action.
Ability to perform effectively under significant pressure typically associated with meeting the demands and timetables of the entertainment industry.
Considerable knowledge of safety regulations and other federal, state, or local laws and regulations.
Strong orientation towards hospitality/customer service for the meeting, convention, and entertainment industry.
Basic knowledge of facility operating standards, building maintenance, custodial, personnel and office management.
Computer Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, AutoCAD.
Other Qualifications:
Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet strict deadlines.
Ability to work under minimal supervision.
Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays in addition to normal business hour as needed.
Must have professional attitude and appearance.
Physical Demands:
This position requires sitting, keyboarding, finger dexterity, ability to use radio (walkie talkie), walking, standing, stooping and may require lifting up to 55 lbs, substantial standing and walking. The ability to speak clearly and effectively.
