The temporary Assistant Laboratory Specialist will actively support management and staff in maintaining the efficient operation of the laboratories and managing Reference Standards and Material related activities. The role involves supporting scientists with RS testing, laboratory operations, and various tasks to facilitate the Reference Standard release, tracking, and trending of different workstreams.
Responsibilities
+ Support scientists in the laboratory with groundwork, including prepping reagents and tests, and inputting data into the system.
+ Review and analyze trending information and compile summaries.
+ Organize and take initiative in managing laboratory activities and non-laboratory activities.
+ Support the end of fiscal year commitments and ensure timely completion of tasks.
+ Assist in running reports, conducting audits, and handling chemicals and basic hazardous materials.
+ Engage in project management activities with a focus on scientific tasks.
+ Utilize the Empower system and in-house Oracle-based software for reporting and data analysis.
+ Work with various scientists in chemistry, biology, and microbiology.
Essential Skills
+ Proficiency in laboratory operations and quality control.
+ Background in chemistry, biology, or microbiology.
+ Experience in data analysis and analytical testing.
+ Familiarity with chemical handling and hazardous material procedures.
+ Competence in using the Empower system and Microsoft applications, particularly Excel.
+ Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize work assignments.
+ Strong communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Self-motivated and capable of taking initiative.
+ Project management experience, particularly in scientific projects.
Work Environment
The role involves both laboratory and non-laboratory activities. The work environment is mission-oriented, with a focus on public health impact. The position requires handling chemicals and hazardous materials, using various software systems, and working closely with scientists across different disciplines.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $31.24 - $38.98/hr.
