Assistant Manager - Patents

+ Provides patent support services and resolves patent matters for assigned projects or clients under direct supervision from more experienced manager
+ Understands the project requirements and accordingly devise FTO/Patentability/Portfolio search strategies.
+ Performs technical and FTO for APIs (Active Pharmaceutical ingredients)
+ Provides support to identify critical patent hurdles, patent monitoring updates, key prosecution timelines.
+ Performs patent or technology landscape searches and build reports.
+ Keeps abreast of changes in Patent laws/Patent Databases etc. that affect responsibility areas
+ Identifies basic patent issues related to assigned matter
+ Assists more experienced managers in resolving patent issues on cross-functional projects
+ Developing knowledge of Abbott’s business and client areas supported
+ Keeps abreast of changes in laws that affect client areas
+ Assigned matters typically have moderate to significant impact on business activities and operations
Skills/Experience Requirements
Basic qualifications:
+ Post-graduate/Master’s in pharmacy (Medicinal/Pharmaceutical chemistry)
+ Must have a minimum of 5-8 years’ experience in an Intellectual Property-patent function.
Preferred qualifications:
+ Excellent technical knowledge/understanding of Medicinal and Organic Chemistry
+ Excellent understanding and experience in performing substance & reaction searches on STN/SciFinder databases.
+ Excellent understanding and experience in evaluating ROS for APIs
+ Excellent understanding and experience of XRPD, DSC, TGA interpretation
+ Experience in working for developed (US/Europe) as well as emerging markets for API IP assessment in a pharma/API company.
+ Excellent technical knowledge in the Pharma domain
+ Excellent understanding of pharmaceutical dosage forms and API
+ Excellent understanding of patent search databases
+ Patent drafting/prosecution experience.
+ Excellent oral and written communication skills.
+ Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
+ Self-motivated and detail oriented.
