Assistant Manager - Sterile Processing

Job Summary:  Plan, coordinate and supervise all Sterile Processing Department activities and functions. Serve in Sterile Processing production role as needed and as assigned by Department Director. Provide assistance, training and guidance for all staff members using continuous performance improvement. Ensure that all personnel follow appropriate procedures and guidelines related to Sterile Processing. Accomplish department operational objectives. Support operations that drive employee satisfaction. Provide leadership to ensure performance improvement, customer service and effective teamwork. Develop excellent working relationships with customers.  Provide input to department Manager/Director in planning, operational, and budgeting functions, including vendor management. Play a vital role in controlling costs to ensure the department is in alignment with organizational direction. Work in conjunction with Human Resources and Sterile Processing Quality/Education Coordinator to effectively recruit and retain a stable and competent workforce. Work with team members, peers, department leadership, senior level leadership, physicians and clinicians to resolve operational challenges. Apply principles of Lean/Six Sigma and 5S methodology to department procedures to achieve continuous process and performance improvement.

Qualifications:   Qualified candidates must have a 2 year degree in a related field with 1 year experience in Sterile Processing or a High School Diploma (or equivalent) with 3-5 years experience in Sterile Processing. Strong background in a surgical setting a plus. Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive leadership/supervisory experience in a healthcare setting desired. Specialty certification (i.e. CRCST, CBSPD) preferred or must obtain specialty certification within 1 year of hire. Demonstrated leadership skills.  Ability to educate and motivate people.  Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.  Ability to define and organize work processes.  Computer analysis/information skills required. Must demonstrate ability to learn departmental and organizational programs (i.e. G-Mail, Net Learning, Position Manager, Safety Reporting System, McKesson, E-Works, Kronos, ATP Program, AMP Audit program, EPIC, Censis, etc.). Extensive knowledge of Sterile Processing policies and procedures desired. Will consider commensurate leadership experience in lieu of Sterile Processing experience. Ability to teach, coach and train staff effectively to develop high performing individuals. Ability to work any shift if needed, including weekends and holidays. Experience with Lean/Six Sigma and/or 5 S methodology desired
