Professional Sports The Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at Mott Community College will be responsible for assisting the head coach and coaching staff with the overall development and management of the men's basketball program. This position includes coaching, recruitment, student-athlete development, program administration and fiscal management responsibilities, as well as development and implementation of a strategic plan for the program.

The official, competitive season is from October to mid-March; however, the Assistant, along with the Head Coach, is responsible for the program on a year-round basis. This is a part-time, year-to-year contractual position, which normally runs from September through August.

Position Summary: The position will assist the Head Men's Basketball Coach with duties as assigned in the coaching, coordination, and management of the NJCAA Division II Men's Basketball program and the successful candidate will be expected to perform the following duties and responsibilities:

Essential Duties: - Under the supervision of the Head Coach - Men’s Basketball and the Athletic Director - Assist in all phases of coaching - Assist in recruiting student athletes - Assist in conducting clinics and camps - Assist with the plan and execution of all practices - Assist in preparations for games and practices as assigned by the Head Coach - Be present at games - Assist in conducting study sessions for student athletes - Help drive college’s van/bus or rental vehicles to away games when needed - Assist in scouting opponents - Assist in conducting fundraisers for the program - Attend MCCAA, Region XII, and staff coaches meetings - Assist in the supervision of athletes while they represent the College - Help to issue, collect, maintain and inventory team equipment - Travel to multiple campuses - Responsible for the student athletes while in transit between MCC and away games/scrimmages - Assume responsibility of the team in the absence of the head coach - Receive an orientation to student services in order to understand and promote the services to student athletes - Promote the college - Other duties as assigned or appropriate

Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

One year of experience as a basketball player or coach. Ability to teach fundamental skills of the game and communicate with young men. Ability to lift, move and store equipment and be able to prepare game fields for practice and competitions. Knowledge of CPR or basic life saving procedures.  Must be able to work throughout the year with a varied schedule, which will include days, evenings and weekends. May be required to obtain a Class 3 Driver’s License or a Chauffeur's License within six (6) months of hiring date and pass the DOT physical.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree.  CPR and/or first aid certification.
