The Assistant Network Administrator plays a key role in supporting the institution's IT infrastructure. This position assists with the configuration, management, and maintenance of campus networks to ensure reliable and secure network operations across all campus facilities. The Assistant Network Administrator works closely with the Network Administrator and IT team members to deliver high-quality network experience for students, faculty, and staff. The ideal candidate should have a bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field, and a minimum of five years of hands-on network/system configuration experience. The candidate will demonstrate a blend of interpersonal skills and technical proficiency. This role may require availability after hours and weekends as needed for network/system maintenance, emergencies, or to respond to cybersecurity incidents. Responsibilities and Duties will include: Network Support and Maintenance: + Assist in the day-to-day management, monitoring, and troubleshooting of the organization's network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, and VPN connections. + Implement and maintain network devices such as routers, wireless networks, switches, firewalls, and load balancers. Server Administration: + Support server infrastructure, including installation, configuration, and maintenance of Windows and Linux servers. + Perform routine administration tasks, such as user management, permissions, and disk space allocation, to maintain server health and security. + Utilize scripting skills, including Bash and PowerShell, to automate routine tasks, streamline configurations, and improve server performance. System Virtualization: + Provide support for virtualized environments, assisting in the setup, maintenance, and monitoring of virtual machines (VMs) to ensure optimal performance and security. + Perform routine checks and updates on virtual hosts and guest operating systems, managing resource allocation as required. Active Directory and Group Policy Management: + Assist in managing Active Directory (AD) services, including user and group account administration, permissions, and directory organization. + Support the implementation and maintenance of Group Policy Objects (GPOs) to enforce security settings and system configurations across the network. Microsoft Exchange and Office 365 Administration: + Provide support for Microsoft Exchange, including email account setup, mailbox permissions, and troubleshooting email-related issues. + Assist in administering Office 365 services, including user account management, license allocation, and resolving any Office 365-related issues. Backup Management and Disaster Recovery: + Assist in implementing and maintaining backup strategies to ensure data is securely stored and accessible in case of data loss. + Monitor backup operations, ensuring successful completion of backups and resolving any errors or failures. + Support disaster recovery planning by assisting in the development, testing, and updating of disaster recovery procedures to ensure timely restoration of services in case of an outage or data exposures. Cybersecurity Support: + Assist in implementing and monitoring cybersecurity policies and controls to protect network resources and data integrity. + Respond to security incidents under guidance, including detecting, containing, and mitigating threats, and support regular security audits. IP Telephony and CCTV Support: + Help maintain and troubleshoot IP telephony systems, ensuring consistent connectivity and voice quality. + Provide technical support for CCTV systems, including setup, monitoring, and troubleshooting of cameras and recording devices. Network Monitoring and Optimization: + Utilize network monitoring tools to track system performance, identify bottlenecks, and troubleshoot issues in real-time. + Assist in capacity planning to optimize network resources and provide recommendations to improve infrastructure efficiency. Patch Management and Software Deployment: + Support the Network Administrator in the deployment of system patches, software updates, and other critical system upgrades. + Collaborate with the IT team on software deployment projects, ensuring compatibility, minimal disruption, and timely implementation. Reporting and Documentation: + Produce statistical reports as needed to provide insights into network performance, uptime, and other key metrics. + Maintain accurate documentation of network configurations, system settings, and any changes made to the infrastructure. + Ensure clear communication with all parties regarding network status, issue resolution, and system changes. Professional Development: + Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices through continued professional development. Others + All other duties as assigned. Job Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience. 5 years of experience in network/system administration role. Experience with virtualization, server administration, scripting and automation is preferred. CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, Cisco CCNA, or Microsoft certifications preferred but not required. This role requires the ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a high-pressure environment, strong customer service skills, and a willingness to adopt new technologies that enhance institutional efficiency. Familiarity with project management principles is preferred. The incumbent must demonstrate strong technical skills in network and systems engineering, along with an in-depth understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practices. The role should be carried out according to the highest ethical and moral standards, in adherence to the facility's corporate compliance plan and all applicable laws. The incumbent must adhere to the facility's confidentiality statement in accessing and safeguarding systems and information as necessary. Additional Information: This is an on-site position with a salary range of $57,979 - $86,969.
