Primary responsibilities for the Assistant or Associate Professor position include teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses, conducting research, student advising, student mentoring and recruitment, curriculum development, conducting scholarly activities and all other activities required for tenure. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, engaging in accreditation procedures, program assessment and service to the department, College and University as needed.
This is a 9-month tenure position. A doctoral degree in Computer Science or a related discipline and an established record of teaching, research and professional accomplishment are required.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
N.C. A&T is a public, land-grant, doctoral research institution and has been the largest historically Black university in the country for the past decade. The College of Engineering ( COE ), with over 2,500 students, has 5 Doctoral programs, 8 Masters of Science Degree programs, and EAC ABET accredited undergraduate programs in Architectural, Bio-, Biological, Civil, Chemical, Computer, Electrical, Industrial, and Mechanical Engineering, as well as a CAC ABET -accredited program Computer Science. The College’s focus is on cultivating leaders who excel in academics, innovation, and research; where the 5 research cluster areas of the COE are Autonomous Systems, Cybersecurity and Resilience, Energy and Sustainability, Healthcare Applications and Complex Systems and Networks. The Computer Science (CS) Department at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University ( NCAT ) has 14 full-time faculty members and offers BS, MS and PhD degrees. The department has a current enrollment of over 500 undergraduate students, 80 masters and 30 doctoral students. The faculty in the department conducts research in areas such as cybersecurity, cyber identity and biometrics, computer vision, quantum computing, data science, big data, artificial intelligence and machine learning, cloud computing, software engineering, multi-agent and social computing. The department has attracted funding from the National Science Foundation, the Department of Defense, the Department of Energy, as well as various industries to support research and education. Requirements:
A doctoral degree in Computer Science or a related discipline and an established record of teaching, research and professional accomplishment are required.
Proven leadership abilities, a strong record of scholarly work and extramural funding. The successful candidate will be a leader effective in bringing teams of people together and supporting them in their efforts to accomplish important tasks on time and within budget.
Preferred:
Experience in curriculum development, budgetary management; and evaluation of programs and personnel. The successful candidate will be an imaginative and inspiring person, who possesses a distinguished record of scholarly accomplishments, appreciates the integration of learning, discovery and engagement, and has significant administrative experience.
Candidates are expected to exhibit a strong commitment to an open and collegial style of communication and management. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; a strong record of effective organizational and administration skills with demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a team member. A commitment to student learning and promoting a culture that values diversity.

This position may be eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement, consistent with university and state policies. N.C. A&T employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2-hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
