The Department of Nutrition, Dietetics, and Food Sciences at Utah State University seeks dynamic applicants with outstanding research and teaching experience for a 9-month, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (50% research, 45% teaching, 5% service). The successful applicant will be expected to build on a long history of food science excellence at USU by establishing an extramurraly funded and nationally recognized research program in the area of food lipids that contributes to the department’s mission of identifying innovative science-driven solutions to food-related problems that affect people and communities. Priority will be given to candidates who complement or expand existing departmental research in the area of food lipids, chocolate and or confectionary science. Priority will be given to applicants who have demonstrated experience and expertise in lipid crystallization, thermodynamics behavior of food of lipids, lipid oxidation, and/or characterization of lipids in food systems through lipidomics or other methods.
The successful applicant will have a passion for teaching and will be expected to teach and mentor students in our undergraduate and graduate food science programs. The teaching responsibilities may include 1) a lage enrollment undergraduate course and lab introducing students to the science behind chocolate manufacturing, and 2) a upper division undergraduate / graduate level course on food laws and regulations. The teaching formats will be both in-person and on-line delivery to meet the needs of students across the USU system.
Priority will be given to applicants who demonstrate the passion and ability to contribute to the success,continued growth and innovation of the Aggie Chocolate Factory. The Aggie Chocolate Factory is the first bean-to-bar chocolate facility on a college campus. The mission of the ACF is to provide education, research, and outreach opportunities to faculty, students, chocolate producers, and the local community about bean-to-bar chocolate. The Aggie Chocolate Factory provides unique hands-on learning opportunities for students through labs, internships, and paid positions.

Responsibilities Teach courses as assigned which may include NDFS 1010 Chocolate: Science, History and Society; NDFS 5510/6510 Food Laws and Regulations; or NDFS 1000 Foundations of Food Science. The teaching assignment may change according to needs of the department, or as otherwise assigned according to the needs of the department.Pursue research in the area of food lipids that relates to industry and federal funding priorities.Publish in peer-reviewed journals appropriate to the discipline.Compete successfully for external funding to support a strong research and student training program.Mentor undergraduate and graduate students.Collaborate with a wide range of food and other scientists in the department and university.Contribute to the department, college, and university through service. QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
PhD Degree in Food Science or related field.Experience with classroom teaching of students in higher education.Research experience in lipids science as evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national/international conferences.Evidence of ability to pursue and obtain competitive funding to support research.Ability to communicate at a technical and non-technical level and with university faculty, staff, and students.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated commitment to teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.Demonstrated experience in chocolate or confectionary production and manufacturing.Demonstrated record of funding from competitive federal and industry sources.Post-doctoral research experience.Experience in chocolate and/or confectionary research as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications.Demonstrated experience in both in-person and and online teaching.
