Purpose of the role
We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Planner to join the Area 9 team based in Bescot, WS1 4NL. As an Assistant Planner you will assist the Area Planner with overall accountability in the development, monitoring, and reporting of multi discipline of localised area programmes in line with client service level agreement and internal commercial requirements. You will support the design and implementation of commercial planning strategies. To provide planning and assist management of the work and workforce of both internal and external operations, oversee the day-to-day functions of the routine and reactive maintenance works, ensuring productivity and utilization are maximized across all operational teams.
Main Responsibilities
As an Assistant Planner you will assist in developing and implementing the localised programs of routine and reactive works. You will assist in planning and delivering the service in line with the Tender strategies, ensure productivity targets are planned for all aspects of the service. Some of the duties you will be required to do are as follows: Assisting daily reporting of hot costings, develop and improve working practices and seek innovative solutions, manage all relevant programmes and assist in developing planned maintenance solutions by reviewing traffic management proposals to ensure delays are minimized and safety not compromised. You will be required to assist the Area Planner in the proactive monitoring and maintenance of all programmes on a regular basis to ensure that the programme remains achievable and identify areas where corrective action may be required. You will regularly communicate programme changes and risks to the Area Planner as well as ensuring that all programmes contain the correct information and are of sufficient detail to allow the project delivery teams to successfully plan and monitor the works to achieve the project goals. You will assist the Area planner and operational teams with the control and Management of resource allocation, rostering, and programming to ensure the service is delivered efficiently and all resource allocation is optimized. Liaise on a regular basis with other departments regarding TM sharing opportunities and populating transport plans through closures etc. You will assist in emergency response, organize remedial repairs, coordinate with NCC after evaluating traffic flows to restore the highway back to normal running and review programmes against the forecast spend profiles to ensure alignment. All programmes will adhere to the Colas processes and procedures to ensure that a consistent quality approach is maintained by all member of the project team. You will be required to perform other duties from time to time as instructed by the Area Planner. Comply will all relevant HSEA compliance and legislative requirements. You will actively promote Health and Safety in the workplace by setting a good example to others by ensuring compliance with the H&S responsibilities as out in the HSMS.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of Planning, having a firm understanding of highways legislation, including the Road Traffic Act is desirable not essential, we are looking for someone who is willing to learn in a fast paced environment.
As an Assistant Planner, you will have excellent communication skills (verbal/written) and be able to manage stakeholders at all levels. Time management and prioritisation of work for self and team against changing demands of network needs is essential. You will need to possess the passion and drive to excel in this role. This role requires you to work in a demanding environment. A UK driving licence is required.
