Assistant Principal (BASAS 10B) (Grades 5-12) (SY24-25)
The Carter School students exhibit severe/profound cognitive delay, physical handicaps, and complex medical conditions, requiring total personal care. We implement a Transdisciplinary Model. Teachers/therapists work on learning objectives together. Our school community is representative of many races and cultures. Our Outdoor Classroom Sensory Healing Garden adds to learning space, providing access to green activities and outdoor physical movement. Reports to: Principal General Description: Boston Public School is currently seeking visionary and dynamic individuals to serve as educational leaders in our schools. We are seeking a highly motivated, exceptional, results-oriented professional who is committed to high standards of performance and achievement by both students and educators. The Assistant Principal/Head of School will maintain student discipline and manage the business aspects of the school in order to assist the Principal/Head of School to create an environment conducive to effective teaching and learning. Responsibilities: Assists in the supervision of all staff and assumes the duties of the Principal/Head of School when he/she is not on the premises. 2. Implements the Code of Discipline and maintains the safety and security of the building and grounds. 3. Supervises the arrival and departure of students; supervises the behavior of students in the common areas of the building and grounds. 4. Seeks funding to enhance the cultural and academic programs at the school. 5. Uses data to guide academic goals to assist the Principal/Head of School in the preparation of the Quality School Plan document. 6. Assists the Principal/Head of School in his/her managerial duties including: Supervises maintenance of the building and grounds Coordinates purchases and delivery of supplies and equipment Supervises maintenance of personnel and student records Prepares reports and statistics of school operations Prepares and maintains the master schedule within planning parameters established by the Principal 7. Supervises substitute teachers, including arranging for coverage, and ensuring that substitute folders are up to date and available for monitoring and evaluating performance. 8. Assists the Principal/Head of School in planning activities including coordinating curriculum, instruction, student, volunteer, and parent activities, and student support services. 9. Engages the wider community to support school goals. 10. Assumes other related duties as requested by the Principal/Head of School Qualifications - Required: Education: Master's Degree in Education or related field. Three (3) years experience successful teaching experience. Massachusetts license for School Principal/Assistant Principal (grades specific). Demonstrated leadership qualities, interpersonal skills, and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators, and parents. Ability to establish a multi-cultural atmosphere that enhances individual growth and promotes a positive self-image. Qualifications - Preferred: Teaching experience in an urban, K-12 educational setting. Teaching experience in a severe special education classroom with a focus on Augmentative Communication and Emergent Literacy Development. A Teacher of the Visually Impaired license and experience teaching students with low vision/blindness. Experience as a school administrator. Experience in Grant writing and fundraising. Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.
