Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit The School of Art is part of the College of Visual & Performing Arts, a community of artists with over 1,500 undergraduate and graduate students. It is the largest visual and performing arts unit in the University of North Carolina system and is recognized for its comprehensive array of graduate programs and the success of its graduates. The School of Art enrolls over 500 undergraduate majors and offers degrees in Art Education, Art History, Arts Administration, Animation, New Media and Design, Painting, Printmaking and Drawing, Photography, and Sculpture and Ceramics. Housed in a first-rate facility and located next door to the acclaimed Weatherspoon Art Museum, the School of Art features the Greensboro Project Space gallery—an experimental site in a vibrant downtown that is also home to the Elsewhere Museum, the International Civil Rights Museum, and numerous other cultural institutions.
Position Summary The University of North Carolina at Greensboro School of Art seeks to fill a Tenure Track Assistant Professor position in 3D Foundations. The School of Art seeks applications from artists who are experienced and actively engaged in advancing equity and inclusivity. The School of Art’s curriculum introduces students to a variety of conceptual and material approaches to sculpture. A candidate would contribute to undergraduate and graduate education, professional creative activity, and service to the academic community. Candidates will be expected to articulate their understanding of how systems of inequity shape disciplinary knowledge, typical practices in their field and university environments, and how those understandings inform their pedagogy. Candidates will have strengths in traditional 3D practices including basic fabrication in wood and metal, clay, mold-making, assemblage and installation.

Responsibilities: Continue developing diversity competencies such as racial literacy and culturally responsive pedagogy in Foundations Teach 3 courses each semester in 3D Foundations and related areas Pursue an active and rigorous program of creative research Advise undergraduate and graduate students Supervise and mentor student research projects and theses Provide service to the department, college, university, and community





Minimum Qualifications MFA or equivalent experience Significant record of peer-reviewed creative activity Broad knowledge of historical and contemporary global practices in the visual arts Ability to situate your field in a social (cultural, historical) context
