This is a full-time, fully benefited position with a focus on teaching. The Department of Theatre and Dance is a progressive, vibrant community providing dynamic performances and academic experiences for a diverse and inclusive community of students across the many areas and disciplines at the University of Delaware. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will possess the following: + A completed terminal degree of M.F.A. or Ph.D. in dance. + Experience teaching dance at the post-secondary level. + Experience teaching a breadth of dance styles and forms. + An ability to mentor students’ interdisciplinary undergraduate research. + A creative/scholarly research profile commensurate with a faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. + A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion with demonstrated ability to lead effective change in diverse groups. RESPONSIBILITIES: + Teach varied forms and styles of dance (e.g., ballet, modern, jazz, hip hop) to undergraduate dance majors, minors, and the general student population. + Mentor students’ interdisciplinary undergraduate research. + Participate in opportunities for professional development, particularly as it relates to dance pedagogy. + Contribute to curriculum development and evaluation. + Conduct scholarly-creative research. + Participate in service activities of the Department of Theatre & Dance, College of Arts & Science, and University. DEPARTMENT OF THEATRE and DANCE AT UD: (https://www.udel.edu/academics/colleges/cas/units/departments/theatre-and-dance/) The Department of Theatre and Dance (https://www.udel.edu/academics/colleges/cas/units/departments/theatre-and-dance/) provides students with a comprehensive dance education that includes opportunities to perform, choreograph, conduct research, and teach in school and community settings. The curriculum includes technique, composition & choreography, with elective choices in the historical, cultural, pedagogical, and somatic areas of dance. Coursework is flexible and adaptive for a large range of students. The recently proposed Bachelor of Arts in Dance is planned to begin fall 2025. A unique aspect of the program is an interdisciplinary capstone wherein students combine their dance interest with content from other major and/or minor courses of study. CONTINUING TRACK (CT): The continuing track is UD’s full-time, continuing faculty line, similar to the tenure track. CT faculty enjoy contracts that increase in length over time and, like tenure-track faculty, receive full and generous benefits, including family-friendly benefits, as part of their compensation package. CT faculty with terminal degrees hold professorial rank and have a path to promotion up to full professor; CT faculty without terminal degrees are at the instructor rank and have a parallel path to promotion. All CT faculty earn sabbaticals, have opportunities to pursue research, participate in shared governance, and hold academic leadership positions.
