Assistant Professor, Research Faculty Appointment (RFA) - Genetics

Summary
To assume responsibilities in the Department of Genetics by planning, coordinating, designing and executing technical research experiments and designing research projects as described by the Principal Investigator. The Assistant Professor will participate in collaborations involving investigators at all levels within the institution and those at other institutions. Scientific contributions must impact cancer research efforts throughout the institution. In addition, this individual must prepare manuscripts for publication as well as travel to national and international meetings to present information about these studies.
Essential functions
research activities
· Consult with faculty to design projects to generate essential animal models. Such projects utilize genome engineering in mouse models, diet interventions, novel targeted therapies and immune-modulating strategies.
· Perform laboratory work including in vivo experiments with transgenic, subcutaneous and orthotopic models of cancer
· Perform surgical procedures on mice and in vitro technical work as required such as IHC, IF, WB, Flow Cytometry, CyTOF, among others.
· Remain up to date with current state-of-the-art techniques for the field and continuously innovate and refine surgical procedures in mice to enhance experimental outcomes.
· Attend conferences, follow research literature, and discuss and establish new approaches with faculty
· Direct projects that include the integration of the gut microbiota with the use of multi-omics (transcriptomic profiling and metabolomics) to dissect the role of the host microbiome in the response to immunotherapy in cancers.
· Train and supervise staff members working in the McAllister laboratory to maintain our position at the forefront of discoveries
· Write and revise the surgical procedures and FMT preclinical protocols.
· Train and/or provide a support to junior laboratory members.

· Prepare and submit applications for peer-review funding to a wide variety of funding agencies.
· Participate in departmental, divisional, institutional meetings, grand rounds, faculty retreats, seminars, and initiatives that align with strategic priorities. This may include traveling to meeting(s), listening to meeting deliberations, and reporting meeting outcomes in an appropriate manner using electronic or written communication.
· Participate in choosing and purchasing equipment, and in the development of new facilities
· May serve on institutional committees or search committees
EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES
· Serve as a mentor and provide stimulating educational experience for graduate, postdoctoral and other trainees in the department.
· Provide education to principle investigators and their staffs regarding new developments in FMT protocols and surgical procedures in mice.
· Set up educational seminars for institutional investigators that will enhance their projects.
· Interact with outside entities to provide information about immune-related targeted therapies.
Work Location: Onsite
This position has a target base salary of $80,000 to $100,000 and is eligible for incentive compensation, comprehensive health, wellness, time off, savings, and retirement benefits, as well as relocation support, as applicable.
