About the DepartmentThe Exercise Science program at the University of Cincinnati is housed in the School of Human Services within the College of Education Criminal Justice, and Human Services (CECH). The program offers a B.S. in Exercise Science, with a Master of Science in Exercise and Sports Science beginning the Fall of 2025.
Students seeking the B.S. degree are interested in careers in strength and conditioning, sports science, wellness programming, cardiac rehabilitation, clinical exercise physiology and more. The science-based curriculum includes applied practical learning opportunities and prepares students to sit for the NSCA-CSCS and ACSM-EP credentials upon graduation. The program is seeking accreditation in CASCE and CAAHEP.
The Exercise Science program is located on the main campus of the University of Cincinnati, in the recently renovated Teachers-Dyer Complex. The program oversees two lab spaces within the building, focused on strength, performance, and exercise physiology. Both lab spaces are equipped with current technology and equipment for practical teaching and research activities. Faculty within the program often collaborate with cross-campus and community partners on various research and service-related projects in sports science, strength and conditioning, blood flow restriction, and wellness.
Job OverviewThe University of Cincinnati is accepting applications for one tenure-track Assistant Professor in Exercise Science.
Essential Functions Maintaining an active research agenda in an exercise science line of inquiry that includes publications, presentations, grant writing and/or pursuit of external funding consistent with the program and university focus on research excellence. Teaching Exercise Science undergraduate and graduate courses including courses such as exercise physiology, exercise testing and prescription, strength and conditioning, and related courses. Mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. Working collaboratively across disciplines within and outside the program (e.g., research, curricular development, service). Assisting with program growth and development including curriculum and degree planning. Engaging in university, professional, and community service, including but not limited to serving on search committees, scholarship review committees, reappointment, promotion, and tenure review committees, peer reviewing for journals, service on workgroups of professional organizations. Minimum RequirementsPrior to effective date of appointment, candidate must have all of the following:
Doctorate in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, or related field. Record of research in exercise science, evidenced by two (2) peer-reviewed publications, two (2) professional presentations (national or international), and one other work in progress. Experience in grant writing or external funding, as evidenced by submission of at least one grant/funding proposal. Experience teaching one undergraduate or graduate Exercise Science course (online or in-person; instructor-of-record or teaching assistant experience is acceptable).
