Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit The UNCG Department of Biology endeavors towards excellence in conducting research and teaching biological concepts and skills to biology majors and graduate students, to prepare them for professional careers and more advanced study. We introduce non-biology majors to the foundations and applications of biology. By involving undergraduate and graduate students in research, we contribute to and increase society’s knowledge across the broad spectrum of biology. We train doctoral students in Environmental Health Science, a complex and rapidly changing discipline. Through laboratory training and directed research experiences, we enhance our students’ technical and analytical skills so that they can contribute meaningfully to an increasingly technological world. Our leadership in scientific innovation and discovery serves our students, profession, and our local and global communities. Position Summary Assistant Professor position in Genetics and/or Cell BiologyThe Department of Biology at UNC Greensboro (UNCG) seeks an individual with a strong record of accomplishment in the area of Genetics and/or Cell Biology for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Successful applicants will be expected to develop an externally funded research program, mentor undergraduate and graduate students from diverse backgrounds, make significant contributions to our Ph.D. program, teach courses in cell biology and/or genetics, and specialty courses in their discipline. The scholarly environment in the Biology Department is highly collaborative with synergies among faculty who study Environmental Health, Human Health, and Global Change and Biodiversity. UNCG has excellent resources to support this position including molecular and cell biology equipment, microscopy and imaging equipment, shared equipment with the Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering, and a competitive startup package with excellent laboratory space. Minimum Qualifications The position is available August 1, 2025, and candidates must hold or anticipate a Ph.D. in Biology or a related discipline by August 1, 2025. Preferred Qualifications Postdoctoral experience is preferred.
