The Computer Science Department at Iona University is seeking applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Computer Science to begin in Fall 2025.  For this position we seek candidates with demonstrated teaching and scholarly expertise in multiple areas of computer science including AI, Cyber Security or Game Development. The Department offers a variety of programs, including an ABET-accredited BS program, concentrations in Cyber Security and Game Development, a minor in Data Science, 5-year programs in Computer Science, an interdisciplinary minor in AI, and interdisciplinary 5-year programs with Chemistry, Mathematics, and Economics.  Candidates with expertise that can support these existing programs will be given preferential consideration. The computer science department is interested in candidates with interdisciplinary teaching and research interests who can collaborate with faculty from other disciplines

 

Iona University and the Computer Science Department emphasize teaching excellence. The successful candidate for this tenure-track position will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and be prepared to pursue a research agenda that includes student involvement. The department also offers courses in support of other undergraduate majors and the university core. A January 2025 start date is an option for candidates that are prepared to begin employment at this earlier time.

 

The department is committed to creating a student-centered learning environment and to engaging students in computer science beyond the classroom. Class sizes are small with core classes having 25 or fewer students. Scholarship in the department is broadly defined, and includes: basic science research, the scholarship of teaching and learning; textbook and software development; and the writing and implementation of internal, state, and national proposals and grants.

Responsibilities:

Participate in the teaching and ongoing development of the computer science curriculum. Teaching duties include 12 contact hours each semester. Full contact hours are given for laboratory instruction. Maintain an active program of scholarly activities leading to publications, broadly defined in the department and university. Participate in service requirements as broadly defined in the department and university.
