The Department of Emergency Medicine at OHSU is home to over 150 faculty and adjunct faculty under the direction of Mary Tanski, M.D., M.B.A., associate professor, and Department Chair. Our clinician's staff at OHSU's Level 1 Trauma Center and Doernbecher Pediatric ED as well as our three community Emergency Departments (Hillsboro Medical Center, Adventist Health Portland, and Columbia Memorial Hospital), three ED Observation Units, the Immediate Care Virtual Visits Program, and the Oregon Poison Center.

 

The Department of Emergency Medicine at OHSU has always been highly ranked in NIH Funded Research and is home to the Center for Policy and Research in Emergency Medicine (CPR-EM). Our residency program currently trains 33 residents and offers a diverse training environment through partnerships at several area hospitals. OHSU offers EM specialty training in the form of select fellowships in: Research, Education, Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Administration, EMS, Toxicology, and Ultrasound. The OHSU Department of Emergency Medicine (DEM) is seeking a full-time physician to join our team to be staffed in the emergency department at Adventist Health Portland. The Adventist health Portland emergency department serves largely an urban environment on the east side of Portland, caring for over 50,000 patient visits per year. There are many communities at risk around the hospital including diverse nationalities as well as recent immigrants. AHP receives the most cardiac arrest resuscitations in Multnomah County (metro PDX) and has a very active stroke and cardiac program. There is excellent engagement and interaction with hospitalist service. This is also an academic site with a regular rotation of medical students, allowing for teaching opportunities.

 

There are seven daily physician shifts staffed by 11 FT physicians primarily staffed at AHP, 5 PT physicians splitting their full-time clinical complement within the OHSU Community ED System, and 4 PT physicians that are primarily staffed in the Marquam Hill ED. There are three daily Advanced Practice (NP/PA) shifts staffed by 7 FT providers. The APPs and physicians provide 86 hours of daily coverage.

 

This position is under the supervision of the Medical Director, with OHSU’s Department of Emergency Medicine. Responsibilities will include working with the interdisciplinary team in the emergency department to achieve quality of care, patient safety, and service excellence goals. The duties of this position are in support of the missions, goals and objectives of OHSU and the School of Medicine.

Function/Duties of Position

The duties of this position include: Staffing the Adventist Health Portland Emergency Department as assigned by the Chair; participation in education of medical and paramedic students, house staff and nurses; participating in Emergency Department quality assurance activities.

Required Qualifications

Education: MD or equivalent; Emergency Medicine Residency Certificate


Experience: Knowledge, training and experience in clinical and academic Emergency Medicine

 

Registrations, Certifications and/or Licenses: Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification required; ABEM or ABOEM Board certified or board eligible

A qualified candidate must have a current unlimited Oregon MD (or equivalent) license prior to start date. The provider must complete the credentialing process and be approved by the OHSU Professional Board to practice as an independent practitioner in an acute care/emergency setting.The provider must be registered with Federal Drug Enforcement Administration and be authorized to prescribe medications prior to start date.
