Department/College Background The Department of Communication Sciences and Disordersis seeking candidates for an Open Rank Tenure/Tenure track position to begin as early as Spring of 2025 or Fall of 2025 with a 9-month teaching appointment in speech-language pathology and summer teaching opportunities. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, providing academic advisement, conducting research activities, conducting scholarly activities, and engaging in professional and university service in all aspects. UTRGV faculty will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to student success and to advancing the university, college, and program missions and are committed to UTRGV’s strategic plan, vision, mission, values and core priorities. (Strategic Planning| UTRGV (https://www.utrgv.edu/strategic-plan/) ) Minimum Qualifications A doctoral degree (Ph.D., Ed.D.) in Speech-Language Pathology or a related field from an accredited institution is required. Successful candidates must be ASHA certified in Speech-Language Pathology ( CCC - SLP ) or in the process of acquiring their ASHA certification. Successful candidates must also possess a current license in speech- language pathology in the state of Texas or be eligible to acquire a license to practice in the state of Texas. Discipline Specific Required Qualifications Preferred Qualifications + Record of teaching excellence, research, and scholarly productivity at the university level. + Successful grant writing at the university level. + Experience in working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. + The following areas of experience, expertise, and/or interests are recommended: + AAC : Knowledge and/or research in Augmentative and Alternative Communication. + Speech Sciences: Strong foundation in speech sciences and related research. + Bilingual/Bicultural Proficiency: Fluency in at least one additional language and experience working with diverse cultural groups. + Dysphagia: Knowledge and/or clinical research in the assessment and treatment of swallowing disorders. + Autism: Knowledge and/or research in speech and language interventions for individuals with autism spectrum disorders. + Special Populations: Knowledge and/or research working with a variety of special populations, including but not limited to developmental disabilities and neurogenic disorders. + Voice Disorders: Knowledge and/or research in diagnosing and treating voice disorders. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program ( ORP ) instead of TRS , subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
