The Department of Mathematical Sciences (https://www.mathsci.udel.edu/) at the University of Delaware invites applications for a Continuing Track faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will provide outstanding instruction in introductory and intermediate-level mathematics, especially calculus courses, and will engage in coordination of large multi-section courses in calculus and other introductory mathematics. Curriculum development and mentoring of less experienced instructors, including teaching assistants, will also be expected.
The anticipated workload for this position is primarily devoted to teaching (typically 3 courses per semester), with the remainder devoted to service and scholarship. The Continuing Track (CT) is UD’s permanent, non-tenure track career path. QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: We are seeking exceptional candidates committed to teaching introductory and intermediate-level mathematics and collaborating with teams of instructors to teach and coordinate college mathematics.
Minimum requirements:
+ A doctoral degree in mathematics, mathematics education, or a related field; for candidates whose doctoral degree is not in mathematics, a minimum of 12 credits in graduate-level mathematics is required;
+ Strong commitment to and potential for excellence in teaching;
+ Strong interest in teaching introductory college mathematics courses (e.g., Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Calculus);
+ Strong commitment to teaching a diverse population of students;
+ A record of scholarship and plans for continued engagement in the scholarship of teaching and learning or in a research area within mathematics.
Preferred qualifications:
+ Experience as the instructor of record for introductory or intermediate-level college mathematics courses;
+ Evidence of excellence in teaching;
+ Experience teaching mathematics to a diverse student population;
+ Strong teamwork skills and/or experience working with teaching assistants.
Primary responsibilities will include:
+ Teaching introductory and intermediate-level mathematics courses (e.g., Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Engineering Math, Linear Algebra, ODE, Probabilities);
+ Coordinating large multi-section courses in calculus and other introductory mathematics courses.
+ Mentoring less experienced instructors, including teaching assistants.
+ Refining shared curricula for introductory mathematics courses.
