SUMMARY:
The Department of Counseling is seeking new faculty members to join the department starting Fall 2025 at the rank of Assistant Professor. Each available position is full-time, 9-month, tenure track, with responsibilities in areas of teaching, research, and service to the university (i.e., department, college, university), and community. Although area(s) of expertise/research is open, preferred candidates would demonstrate evidence in at least one of the following areas: school counseling; quantitative and/or qualitative research methods; introductory, intermediate, and advanced statistics in counseling; child/adolescent counseling (e.g., play therapy, sand tray, expressive arts); and/or telehealth counseling. Successful candidates must demonstrate (a) a professional identity in counseling/counselor education, (b) relevant professional counseling credentials (e.g., licensed professional counselor, certified school counselor, licensed chemical dependency counselor, etc.) or licensure/certification eligible with a commitment to obtain within the first year of their academic appointment, and (c) active and sustained memberships in professional counseling organizations (e.g., ACA, ACES, CSI, TCA, etc.).
Tenure-Track faculty in the Department of Counseling at Texas A&M University-Commerce are required to demonstrate evidence of teaching excellence; scholarly activity, including original research that leads to peer-reviewed publication and presentation; and contribute service to their discipline, the community, and the university (i.e., department, college, university).
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Teach undergraduate, masters, and/or doctoral level courses offered in the counseling department;
+ Engage in scholarly activities, including original research that leads to peer-reviewed publication and presentation;
+ Advise undergraduate and graduate counseling students;
+ Prepare syllabi, update course materials and develop curriculum;
+ Deliver instruction both online, asynchronously and synchronously, and face-to-face at any of the university campuses;
+ Teach courses across the CACREP curriculum;
+ Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to implement departmental initiatives and programs;
+ Provide service to the department, college, university, and community; and
+ Maintain knowledge and stay abreast of current trends and best practices in counseling.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
+ Education: Doctorate in Counseling or Counselor Education prior to the start of the Fall 2025 semester, have a related doctoral degree and have been employed as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013, have been employed as a full-time doctoral-level faculty member in a CORE-accredited master’s program prior to July 1, 2017, or have graduated from a rehabilitation doctoral program prior to January 1, 2018.
+ Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
+ Record of research/scholarship or evidence of future research/scholarship potential;
+ Active and sustained memberships in professional counseling organizations;
+ Strong interpersonal and communication skills; and
+ Commitment to high quality teaching, in-person and online, and maintaining quality standards of student success.
+ Ability to: Multi-task and the ability to work collaboratively with a team of professionals. Ability to travel to any university campus.
+ Licensing/Professional Certifications: Relevant professional counseling credentials (e.g., licensed professional counselor, certified school counselor, licensed chemical dependency counselor, etc.) or licensure/certification eligible with a commitment to obtain within the first year of their academic appointment.
PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:
+ Doctorate in Counseling or Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited program;
+ Teaching experience at the master’s- and doctoral-level in a CACREP-accredited program;
+ Synchronous and asynchronous online teaching experience;
+ Expertise/research area(s) in school counseling; quantitative and/or qualitative research methods; introductory, intermediate, and advanced statistics in counseling; child/adolescent counseling (e.g., play therapy, sand tray, expressive arts); and/or telehealth counseling;
+ Familiarity with CACREP standards; and
+ Licensed as an LPC, LPC-S, or LCDC in Texas.
