The Assistant Professor is a member of the ranked faculty with an intermediate academic rank who has demonstrated achievement in the areas of teaching, research, and professional service appropriate to the discipline. The Assistant Professor’s teaching responsibilities are assigned by the academic department head and may include serving as an academic advisor. The Assistant Professor engages in scholarly activities beyond those associated with teaching and is expected to demonstrate professional productivity in research, based upon the availability of resources and consistent with the mission of the University.

Description of Primary Duties
Dance faculty members choreograph/direct for the department’s main stage Fall Dance Concert and Spring Dance Concert. There are also opportunities to choreograph and direct musical theatre productions. All ranked faculty are expected to conduct research, help with recruitment, advise students, and serve on departmental, college, and/or university committees.
The Missouri State University Department of Theatre and Dance invites applications for a tenure track assistant professor of Dance starting August 2025. Our undergraduate programs offer rigorous training in a liberal arts setting. Theatre and Dance belongs to the School of the Arts, which is one of five schools in the Reynolds College of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities (RCASH). The department annually produces two dance concerts, two musicals, three additional plays during the academic year, as well as Tent Theatre’s three productions each summer. Missouri State University Department of Theatre and Dance offers a BFA in Musical Theatre, BFA in Theatre and Dance with a Dance option, a BS in Dance, and a Dance minor. The program welcomes students of diverse backgrounds and interests. The successful candidate will embrace a philosophy of inclusion and the Missouri State University public affairs mission which includes cultural competency, ethical leadership, and community engagement.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Assistant Professor are prescribed in the Faculty Handbook. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.

Additional Qualifications
Terminal degree which may include MFA (60 credit hours) or PH.D in Dance or related field. Three years teaching at the university level or significant professional experience. The successful candidate will have a minimum of three years of teaching experience or significant professional experience, with the ability to teach at least three of the following technique styles: Jazz Dance, Hip Hop, Tap, Partnering, Musical Theater Dance Styles, Contemporary Dance, or other Cultural/Non-Western dance forms.
