Faculty Appointment Type Tenure Track Term (if applicable) 9 month Begin Date of Appointment 08/11/2025 Exempt/Non-Exempt Exempt General Function The Assistant Professor is a member of the ranked faculty with an intermediate academic rank who has demonstrated achievement in the areas of teaching, research, and professional service appropriate to the discipline. The Assistant Professor’s teaching responsibilities are assigned by the academic department head and may include serving as an academic advisor. The Assistant Professor engages in scholarly activities beyond those associated with teaching and is expected to demonstrate professional productivity in research, based upon the availability of resources and consistent with the mission of the University. Description of Primary Duties We seek a candidate who can demonstrate a commitment to inclusive teaching practices and experience in exercise science-related classes with core topics such as, but not limited to, anatomy and physiology, strength and conditioning, exercise physiology, exercise prescription and testing, and graduate courses in the MS of Kinesiology program. The candidate will have the ability to work in an interdisciplinary fashion and have student-focused pedagogy in the seated and online classroom to engage students in the learning process aiming to increase student retention, persistence, and success. Research responsibilities include the development of an active and funded research program involving undergraduate and graduate students that results in peer-reviewed publications and presentations. Candidates should demonstrate commitment to performing meaningful service on program, school, college, and university committees as well as to their profession/discipline. Minimum Acceptable Qualifications The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Assistant Professor are prescribed in the Faculty Handbook. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required. Additional Qualifications Doctorate or terminal degree in exercise science, exercise physiology, or related field (ABD candidates realistically scheduled to complete the dissertation within one year of appointment Potential for, or evidence of, scholarship with a defined agenda. Potential for, or evidence of, innovative, learner-centered pedagogy. Ability to teach courses (in person and online) in the Exercise Science program, MS of Kinesiology program, or in the other areas of the School based on expertise. Ability to teach courses such as, but not limited to, anatomy and physiology, strength and conditioning, exercise physiology, exercise prescription and testing. CSCS Certification, or the ability to complete the certification within one year of appointment. Demonstrate involvement or participation with the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) The ability or potential to mentor and support our student population.
