No If Temporary, enter End Date: Position Summary The History Department at the State University of New York at Cortland (SUNY Cortland) seeks to hire an assistant professor in public history.

The Department is excited to expand its current offerings in public history and is eager to attract applicants who have developed public history curriculum and/or concentrations, especially those who have interest in digital humanities. Department faculty are dedicated teachers, productive scholars, and engaged members of the campus community who support allied programs in Africana Studies, Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, International Studies, Latino and Latin American Studies, Native American Studies, and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic and growing History Department with more than 200 undergraduate majors. Its robust curricular offerings support undergraduate majors in history, adolescence education in social studies and a online master’s degree in history.

Experience Cortland dives deep into the region’s offerings Major Responsibilities Teaching• Teach undergraduate courses in public history; build and expand on current public history offerings and supervise internships.Research• Pursue a robust research and publication agenda in public history, which may include research in digital humanities, history and heritage.Service• Work with multiple constituencies within and beyond the university, including outreach to and collaboration with public historians and digital humanities scholars throughout the historical community.• Collaborate with local and regional partners, including museums, archives, libraries and historical societies.• Collaborate with department colleagues in the development and delivery of public history programming housed in the History Department.• Engage in department, school, university, and professional service opportunities. Functional and Supervisory Relationships Reports to the academic department chair Works closely with department faculty Required Qualifications PhD. in History, or related field (Candidates are required to hold a doctorate in history or related field by time of appointment) Graduate-level training in public history



Preferred Qualifications Developed public history programs and/or concentrations. Experience and demonstrated effectiveness in public history Research and publications in the field of public history Engagement in efforts to promote public history Experience in developing a public history concentration/program Experience in college-level teaching of public history courses
