Texas State University launched its Civil Engineering (CE) program under the Ingram School of Engineering in 2019. The CE program received EAC ABET accreditation in 2024 and now has 15 faculty members serving 440 undergraduate and 50 graduate and PhD students. In 2024, Texas State established the PhD in CE program, focusing on leadership, innovation, communication, and entrepreneurship in infrastructure. This exclusive program integrates Civil Engineering principles with entrepreneurial skills and technology-enhanced infrastructure ( TEI ), making it the first of its kind in Texas. This initiative highlights the need for infrastructure innovation and supports the university’sRoad to R1 (https://www.president.txst.edu/strategic-vision/run-to-r1/impact.html) goals. The CE faculty has conducted cutting edge research in various transportation areas, such as artificial intelligence (AI) applications in multi-modal traffic safety, operations, connected and automated vehicles (CAVs), and smart transportation infrastructure management. Texas State is leading a USDOT Tier I University Transportation Center “Coastal Research and Educations Actions for Transportation Equity” ( CREATE ). The CE program has excellent laboratory facilities, including the recently opened $15M state-of-the-art Infrastructure Research Laboratory ( IRL ), with a strong floor and reaction wall for complex large-scale structural and material testing. The successful candidate will be expected to (a) work toward establishing a sustainable program of funded research in Transportation Engineering including receiving significant external research funding, (b) exhibit a strong commitment to student-centered teaching and advising at the undergraduate and graduate levels, © perform university and professional service, and (d) support the research, education, and community service for the local transportation problems. Required Qualifications + An earned doctorate in civil engineering, or a closely related discipline with a concentration in transportation engineering. + Professional Licensure/Registration (PE) or the ability to obtain licensure within three years of initial hire. + Evidence of intellectual and academic accomplishments, including peer-reviewed publications, and experience of external funding in the area of transportation engineering. + Effective oral and written communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills. Preferred Qualifications + Proven ability as an effective instructor of record in undergraduate and graduate academic environments + Demonstrated interest and expertise in conducting research in CAVs. + Expertise in statistical modeling, optimization modeling, and AI applications. + Expertise in traffic operations, highway network modeling, and transportation planning. + Expertise in traffic control, traffic simulation, and congestion mitigation. + Experience advising and mentoring students in academic environments with a diverse population.
