The Department of Computer Science has 1100 undergraduate majors and 279 graduate students in our Masters and Ph.D. programs as of Fall 2023. The department increased its number of undergraduate women studying CS by 126% and increased its number of graduate women studying CS by 104% between 2018 and 2022, supported by a Northeastern Center for Inclusive Computing best practices grant. The department’s 22 tenure-track faculty are strong in research programs in algorithms, artificial intelligence, software engineering, big data, bioinformatics, computer vision, distributed systems, augmented and virtual reality, networks, parallel computing, security, and computer science education. It has 10 non-tenure track faculty members who assist with the department’s teaching mission. And 15 staff members who support the overall teaching and research missions of the department. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor or, in exceptional cases, the rank of Associate Professor. Appointment to the rank of Associate Professor requires an established record of high-quality teaching and scholarship/research with a strong prospect for continuation. This is a full-time, 9-month position with a start date of August 16, 2025. The candidate must demonstrate the potential for excellence in research, teaching, and service that is consistent with that of a Carnegie R1 university. A Ph.D. in computer science or closely-related field is required at the beginning of the appointment.The department is specifically looking for candidates with expertise in the following areas: + Quantum Algorithms, + Quantum Communications, + Quantum Encryption and Decryption, + Quantum Optimization Methods, + Software to support Quantum Sensing and Quantum Computing, and/or + Quantum AI and Machine Learning.
