The Department of Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Rhode Island (URI) invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank in medicinal chemistry and pharmacognosy beginning in Fall 2025.

The college has extensive partnerships with research centers and health systems across Rhode Island, Eastern and Central Massachusetts, and Eastern Connecticut, including the Rhode Island IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (RI-INBRE), Advance Rhode Island Clinical and Translational Research (Adv RI-CTR), Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE), Brown University, and the Veterans Affairs Providence Healthcare System.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop an innovative and internationally recognized research program that maintains sustained extramural funding.
Teach courses in Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacognosy at the undergraduate, professional, and graduate levels.
Contribute to the teaching missions of the University by mentoring and teaching graduate, professional degree, and undergraduate courses for the college.
Engage in departmental and external service.
Maintain a commitment to diversity and effective student mentorship.
RESEARCH FOCUS:
Innovative research in Natural Products Chemistry with a focus on drug discovery and development.
Potential for interdisciplinary research collaborations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:
1. Ph.D., MD, or equivalent in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, Pharmacognosy, or a related discipline.
2. Relevant postdoctoral experience.
3. Proven track record and demonstrated excellence in research.
4. Strong mentoring record.
5. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.
6. Demonstrated proficiency in oral communication skills.
7. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.
PREFERRED:
1. Interdisciplinary research experience, including but not limited to bioinformatics, genetics, synthetic biology, metabolomics, genomics, or proteomics.
2. Evidence of research independence and grant writing experience.
3. Demonstrated commitment to innovative teaching methods and inclusive pedagogy.
4. Experience in teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels.
