Position description
The Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA invites applications for a full-time faculty position at Assistant Professor rank in the In-Residence Series.
The Division of Surgical Oncology at UCLA offers a state-of-the-art approach to cancer therapy through innovative surgical techniques, multi-disciplinary tumor boards, and integrated practice unit clinics. The Division houses programs in pancreatic, breast, colon, and gastric cancers, as well as sarcoma, melanoma, and pseudomyxoma peritonei. The program is based at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and David Geffen School of Medicine. Our physicians also see patients at the UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center and the UCLA Health community practice sites spanning most of southern California, the Olive View UCLA Medical Center, and the Wadsworth Veterans Affairs Medical Center. In addition to clinical care, clinical/translational research and applied basic laboratory investigations related to the etiology, diagnosis, and treatment of malignant solid tumors are prioritized. Many of our faculty have developed pioneering programs that have significantly improved the care of patients with solid tumors.
The ideal candidate will have superior clinical abilities, a track record of peer-reviewed research publications, and commitment to teaching. Strong interpersonal skills, a collaborative nature, and dedication to providing care within a multidisciplinary system are essential. Responsibilities will be patient care in the areas of breast surgery, teaching of medical students, residents and fellows. The candidate will have a commitment to establishing an independent clinical/translational scientific research program and a commitment to a path for independent extramural funding.
The candidate must have an M.D. degree or equivalent, be American Board of Surgery eligible or certified, and be eligible for an unrestricted California medical license. Completion of an SSO-accredited one-year breast surgical oncology fellowship is desired. Successful candidates should have demonstrated a high potential towards a national reputation for teaching and research excellence as well as experience with program development and trainee education. Leadership skills, administrative experience, and teaching experience are a plus.
The University of California seeks to recruit and retain a diverse workforce as a reflection of our commitment to serve the people of California, to maintain the excellence of the University, and to offer our students richly varied disciplines, perspectives and ways of knowing and learning.
The salary will be commensurate with academic rank and experience.
