Job Title Assistant Professor/Instructor of Sport and Exercise Sciences Agency West Texas A&M University Department Sports And Exercise Science Proposed Minimum Salary Commensurate Job Location Canyon, Texas Job Type Faculty Job Description Job Summary: Instructor/Assistant/Associate Professor of Sports and Exercise Sciences (2 positions) West Texas A&M University (WTAMU), a member of The Texas A&M University System, is a four-year academic institution with more than 9,000 students serving the Texas Panhandle and beyond. WTAMU invites applications for two positions (i.e., Instructor and Assistant/Associate Professor of Sports and Exercise Sciences – Exercise Science). WTAMU is seeking innovative and dynamic student-centered educators to contribute to undergraduate (i.e., Exercise Science, Human Performance, Physical Education, Athletic Training, and Strength and Conditioning) and graduate (i.e., Exercise Science, Sport and Exercise Psychology, and Sport Management) programs using both traditional and online delivery. Positions report to the Head of the Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences. The Instructor position is a 9-month, non-tenure track full-time teaching faculty position with a five/five load and optional summer teaching. The Assistant/Associate Professor position is a 9-month, tenure-track full-time faculty position with a four/four or four/three load, depending on rank, and optional summer teaching. The breakdown of responsibilities for the performance evaluation criteria (i.e., Instructional Responsibility, Intellectual Contribution, and Professional Service) vary based on rank but normal ranges are listed in the faculty handbook. Work Performed: Varies based on position: + Teach undergraduate and possibly graduate courses in area of expertise using face-to-face and/or online delivery formats. + Faculty teaching graduate courses have the responsibility of serving on graduate committees (e.g., capstone, thesis, and internship/inquiry committees) to support students matriculating through the graduate program. + Develop a dynamic research program with areas of research that may include but are not limited to Sport Nutrition/Bioenergetics, Dietetics, Strength and Conditioning, Biomechanics, Athletic Training, Exercise Physiology, Fitness and Wellness, Psychosocial Factors, or other kinesiology related areas. + Recruit, advise, and mentor undergraduate and graduate students. + Actively participate in departmental, university, scientific community, and professional service activities. + Work collaboratively with WTAMU faculty and faculty committees, other agencies, universities, and constituents to support regional teaching, research, and service needs related to expertise. Necessary Qualifications: + Master’s Degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Nutrition/Dietetics, Athletic Training or closely related field (Those without a terminal degree would not qualify for the Assistant/Associate Professor position). + Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching with experience teaching courses in areas of expertise. + Commitment to an interdisciplinary team approach to education and research. + Desire and ability to establish collegial relationships with department, college, university, and community members. + Leadership skills, effective communication, self-motivation, and performance in a student-centered environment are expected. Preferred Qualifications: + Doctorate in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Nutrition/Dietetics, Athletic Training or closely related field. Current ABD candidates will be considered. + Proven record of research and scholarly achievement appropriate for rank. + Have current funding experience or strong potential to secure funding to support research and scholarly activity. + Professional certification or licensure related to Nutrition/Dietetics (e.g., RD and/or CSSD) and/or Strength and Conditioning (e.g., CSCS and/or CPT). + Experience advising and mentoring students in both academics and research. + Experience teaching and developing curriculum in one or more of the following areas: Sport Nutrition/Bioenergetics, Dietetics, Strength and Conditioning, Therapeutic Modalities, Structural and Mechanical Kinesiology, Personal Training, Athletic Training, and Biomechanics.
