Assistant Professor - Molecular and Cellular Neurobiology
Classification Title: Assistant Professor College/Division: College of Arts and Sciences Department: CAS Biological Sciences Advertised Job Summary: The Department of Biological Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of South Carolina ( USC ) invites applications for two 9-month, full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor positions with a research program in molecular and cellular neurobiology. These positions will begin on August 16, 2024, or January 1, 2025. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an independent, extramurally funded research program relevant to neural development and/or disease. These positions will join the SmartState Center for Childhood Neurotherapeutics (http://research.cas.sc.edu/neurother/) , which includes neurobiologists focusing on axon signaling and function in brain development, disease, and response to injury. USC has a highly interactive neuroscience research community that encourages and precipitates collaborations. The developmental neurobiology community is further strengthened by the interdisciplinary Carolina Autism and Neurodevelopment ( CAN ) Research Center (https://sc.edu/study/colleges\_schools/artsandsciences/centers\_and\_institutes/uofscand/index.php) . The USC Department of Biological Sciences (http://www.biol.sc.edu/) is a multidisciplinary unit consisting of 35 tenured/tenure-track faculty members representing a broad range of research areas, including Neurobiology, Developmental Biology, Cancer Biology, Plant Science, Ecology and Evolution, and Marine Sciences. It includes approximately 1,700 undergraduate students and over 70 graduate students and post-doctoral fellows. The department has ready access to excellent core technical support facilities and is complemented by strong research programs in other science departments, the USC School of Medicine, the Arnold School of Public Health, and the South Carolina School of Pharmacy. Advertised Salary Range: We offer a competitive salary and benefits package. Advertised Minimum Qualifications : Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in biology or related discipline (or M.D.) and at least three years of postdoctoral research experience in a relevant area of neuroscience or biomedical sciences by the start date of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses relevant to their area of expertise, as well as mentoring the research training of undergraduate and graduate students and post-doctoral fellows.
