Position Summary The School of Music at UNC-Greensboro welcomes applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Bassoon to begin August 1, 2025. We seek an artist/teacher with demonstrated success and/or competence working with students from diverse musical, social, and cultural backgrounds. The ideal candidate is a skilled and successful teacher of undergraduate and graduate students and will fulfill duties and responsibilities commensurate with an academic position at a leading institution. Candidates will teach studio bassoon lessons, organize and run mixed chamber ensembles, and provide academic advising to a diverse student body, including first generation and transfer students. Additional areas of teaching and service may be determined depending upon School needs, candidates’ individual interests, qualifications, and expertise. The successful candidate will join faculty and staff at a minority-serving institution committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Responsibilities:
Recruit and teach undergraduate and graduate bassoon students locally, regionally, and nationally. Teach classes that prepare students for a diverse range of careers in music and provide mentorship and career guidance to students; Collaborate within a comprehensive School of Music that places emphasis on flexibility and adaptability; Pursue innovative research and creative activity.

Additional areas of teaching and service may be determined depending on School needs, candidates’ individual interests, qualifications, and expertise. The successful candidate will work collaboratively to further the School’s commitment to engage with the diversity of musical meanings and practices globally and locally, while forging new paths for themselves and others in a rapidly changing artistic landscape. We are looking for a forward-thinking, creative colleague; a background in community engagement and community building is desirable. Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree and artistic excellence in bassoon performance and pedagogy, and chamber music and chamber music pedagogy.  Additional experience in advancing equity and inclusivity in teaching and professional/creative practice and mentoring diverse populations of students.  We are seeking an artist-scholar with a background in performing, coaching, and mentoring students in a variety of chamber ensembles, emphasizing diverse literature and genres. Preferred Qualifications Terminal music degree or equivalent professional experience; Demonstrated success in teaching graduate students and demonstrated commitment to professional service.  An active, engaged performer is preferred.
