Job Description

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), a member of the Texas A&M University System, welcomes applicants for a/an Assistant Professor of Communication to begin Fall 2025.

This is a tenure-track Assistant Professor (full-time; 9 month appointment with reduced teaching load) position. Primary duties will include teaching a variety of communication undergraduate and graduate courses which may include in-person, hybrid, online, and/or any combination thereof. (Teaching load is reduced: 12 SCH for the 1st and 2nd academic years; 15 SCH for the 3rd academic year, and 18 SCH for the 4th-6th academic years); and engaging in original scholarly research that leads to peer-reviewed presentations and publications in scholarly and/or creative activities. Duties also include developing curriculum related to digital journalism and relevant fields; contributing to shared governance by serving on committees; and serving as a faculty advisor to student clubs or media associated with the department. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace. 

The Department of Psychology and Communication at TAMIU offers the B.A. in Psychology and two graduate programs. The Master of Science in Psychology and the Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology. The B.A. in Psychology is one of the largest undergraduate programs on campus.

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate must hold a terminal degree (either an M.F.A. or PhD) in journalism or relevant discipline by start of appointment. ABDs will be considered but must have earned a doctorate before appointment. Expertise in one or more of the following areas are encouraged to apply: mobile and social media, artificial intelligence, data science, data journalism and data visualization, immersive storytelling, public relations, and/or strategic communications. We strongly encourage candidates with previous experience teaching at the college level; expertise in quantitative social science research methods involving AI and data science; and professional experience in journalism or relevant fields and the capacity to contribute to developing and delivering an emerging-media-focused journalism curriculum.
