This is a campus-wide responsibility, with purposeful collaborations among many other departments. The joint efforts of students, faculty and administrators focus on improving the quality of learning at every level from birth through higher education. The School of Education is part of the College of Health and Education and offers educator preparation programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels in art, computer science, culturally and linguistically diverse education, early childhood education, elementary education, English, math, music, physical education, principal, science, social studies, Spanish, and special education. Additionally, the School of Education offers a variety of Master of Education (M.Ed.) degrees for educators both online and in-person, as well as an online doctoral degree (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership that is designed to generate highly qualified administrators for P-12 and higher education. The SoE reflects the mission of the university by emphasizing the integration of pertinent skills across the curriculum and a commitment to excellence in serving a diverse student population. The program’s conceptual framework, Building and Bridging Communities of Learners, has led to the development of a network of partner schools and outreach activities to regional school districts, as well as strong co-curricular activities for students and a co-teaching model of student teaching. The demand for highly qualified educators and administrators in rural and southern Colorado has resulted in a need for flexible programs, providing more access to the field of education. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to become a member of a growing, vital program in educator preparation and development. All educator preparation programs are authorized by the Colorado Department of Education and Colorado Commission on Higher Education. Description of Job The person selected for this on-campus position will: teach education courses (undergraduate/graduate) – some with strong field experience components, supervise student teachers and alternative licensure candidates, supervise masters and doctoral research, advise students, participate in peer-reviewed scholarly activity, collaborate with PK-12 and university faculty in implementing a standards and performance-based educator preparation program, and provide service to the university and community. The usual teaching load is 12 credit-hours per semester; some of those credit hours may be through an equivalent amount of supervision of student teachers, alternative licensure candidates, and/or other graduate students. Specific teaching responsibilities will be commensurate with candidate’s qualifications and may focus on the individual’s specialization area(s). The successful candidate will be proficient with in-person, hybrid, and online instruction. This tenure-track position has a nine-month academic year with the potential for summer teaching for additional compensation. Primary Duties Teaching Teach courses in educator preparation at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Supervise licensure candidates in our program. Some travel may be required to supervise program candidates. Scholarly Activity Participate in peer-reviewed scholarly activities (publications, grants, etc.); such activities should include undergraduate and graduate students whenever possible and appropriate. Service Service to the school, college, university, and community. Advise students. General Duties (May align with one or more of the above categories) Collaborate with faculty in assessment, recruitment, and retention activities of the program.
