Job Summary
The English program at the University of Southern Mississippi invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in African American Literature. Time period and research interest are open. The successful applicant will teach a range of undergraduate surveys and field-specific courses, as well as graduate seminars. They will also participate in USM’s Center for Black Studies.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
+ Maintain active research and publishing agenda
+ Teach undergraduate survey courses and graduate seminars in area of specialization
+ Advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students
+ Fulfill service obligations appropriate to a tenure track faculty member
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
PhD in English or related field by the time of appointment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office software
Preferred Qualifications
A record of publication and scholarship as well as teaching experience. Demonstrated experience teaching and mentoring students of diverse backgrounds.
