Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit The Department of Information, Library, & Research Sciences (ILRS) invites applications and nominations for a tenure-track Assistant Professor. ILRS offers Bachelors, Master’s, and Ph.D. degrees in the intersecting areas of information, library, and research & evaluation sciences, including a Master’s of Library & Information Science degree accredited by the American Library Association. According to the 2021 U.S. News & World Report, the MLIS program is ranked #2 in North Carolina and #22 across the United States. We offer a fully online, synchronous Master of Library & Information Science degree, as well as a variety of in-person and hybrid programs. This position is a 9-month appointment on the main Greensboro campus with promotion and tenure possibilities. Tenure-track faculty members have responsibilities in three areas: teaching, research, and service. The position will be effective August 1, 2025, and the salary is commensurate with qualifications. Position Summary
Candidates with a specialization in public librarianship or library administration are preferred. Other areas of interest will also be considered, including the following: Leadership and advocacy Community engagement with underserved populations Social justice issues Trauma-informed library services Intellectual freedom Emerging technologies and digital equity Programming, partnerships, and outreach Youth services or adult services Other areas of focus related to public librarianship


Responsibilities Participate in instruction, research, publication, and other scholarly activities Teach in synchronous, online environments primarily at the graduate level, with opportunities to teach face-to-face in the undergraduate program as well Mentor and advise graduate students Provide service to the department, school, university, profession, and community Minimum Qualifications Required Education and Qualifications Earned doctorate in library/information science, education, or related field, by start date of employment. Consideration will be given to candidates who have not yet earned their doctorate at the time of application, but who anticipate earning their doctorate in the near future. Master’s degree in Library & Information Science from a program accredited by the American Library Association Capacity to teach and mentor at the graduate level
