Appointment date: August 14, 2025. A PhD in music (completed no later than August 2025) with a focus on historical musicology is required. The area of specialty is open; the successful candidate will add breadth and depth to the current faculty's research profile and be able to work across disciplinary lines. With nine faculty lines and an average graduate cohort of fifteen students, the PhD program is characterized by close faculty-student interactions. Recent graduates have landed full-time teaching positions and post-doctoral fellowships. In addition to offering graduate seminars, the musicology faculty broadly serves over 500 students in the College of Music pursuing bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in performance, composition, conducting, jazz studies, music education, and music theory, as well as thousands of non-music majors from across the campus. CU Boulder is located in one of the most picturesque and desirable geographic locations in the country, within easy driving distance of a major metropolitan area and the Rocky Mountains. **What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be** Teaching expectations: Musicology faculty members teach four courses per year (two per semester) and participate in graduate committee work, including students earning master's and doctoral degrees outside of musicology. Mentoring graduate students in their research and writing skills is a significant part of the job. Courses to be taught range from the undergraduate (non-major and major) through doctoral levels. Teaching undergraduate music history survey courses is expected. Research expectations: Successful applicants will be able to demonstrate a clear research agenda with a growing record of peer-reviewed conference presentations and publications. These must show outstanding writing skills and serve as a model for students. Service expectations: The University of Colorado Boulder uses a 40-40-20 model for faculty evaluation (40% teaching, 40% research, 20% service).
