This is an 11-month, tenure track position that reports to the Head of the Department of Agricultural Sciences. WTAMU is seeking an innovative and dynamic educator and scientist to enhance a recognized teaching and research program in agronomic management that complements existing programs in dryland agriculture, range science, and soil/environmental science. WTAMU is a four-year academic institution with more than 9,000 students serving the Texas Panhandle and beyond. The geographic region is noted for its integrated crop-livestock agriculture and related agri-business. The Department of Agricultural Sciences has nearly 1,150 students and offers B.S., M.S, M.Ag. and Ph.D. degrees. Qualifications + Ph.D. in Agronomy, Plant/Soil Science, Plant Physiology, Plant Pathology, Plant Breeding or closely related field + Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service + Working knowledge and experience in plant science, agronomy, and production systems + Academic or industry experience beyond the Ph.D. is preferred + Commitment to an interdisciplinary team approach to education and research + Desire and ability to establish working relationships with external constituents in the crop, forage, and livestock industry + Leadership skills, effective interpersonal communication, self-motivation, and the ability to thrive in a student-centered environment are essential qualities expected Responsibilities + Teach a minimum of 9 hours per long semester in area of expertise, using face-to-face and/or online formats. + Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students + Active participation in departmental, university, scientific community, and industry service activities + Develop strong crop, forage, soil, and livestock industry relationships in the region/state + Participate in departmental recruiting efforts to grow the PSES program + Build a dynamic research program that will attract extramural and contract funding, with targeted areas of research that may include integrated dryland crop/livestock systems, deficit-irrigated cropping, plant breeding, plant physiology, plant pathology, management, soil health, water management, use of technology, or related disciplines. + Work collaboratively with WTAMU faculty, other agencies and universities, and constituents in the crop, soil, forage, and livestock industry to support regional teaching, research and service needs.
