Position Summary: The School of Architecture at Florida Atlantic University invites applicants for a full-time faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor of Practice and Director of the Institute for Design and Construction (IDaC), to commence August 2025. The ideal candidate will help bridge the gap between the academy and professional practice. This position is intended for a licensed architect to share their professional experience with students while fostering new sponsored community engagement opportunities for the school. This resonates with the ethos of the School of Architecture, where faculty encourage students to use pragmatic constraints as poetic design opportunities. The individual who fills this position will help continue to ground the school in the profession. The School of Architecture is particularly interested in candidates with an entrepreneurial vision for the development of programs offered through IDaC. Important consideration will be given to candidates with a record of teaching integrative and comprehensive design studios. The Assistant Professor of Practice position is on a 12-month renewable contract, with an initial three-year term. The position is not tenurable, but is promotable. This position has teaching and service requirements, but no research requirements. The successful candidate will teach a combination of design studio courses and lecture courses, that shall be distributed between the fall, spring and summer semesters. The successful candidate will also serve as Director of IDaC and will oversee all activities of IDaC including continuing education programs, certificate training programs, and the Architecture Summer Institute. The candidate is also expected to work with the Director of the School of Architecture to develop a business and marketing plan for IDaC. The School of Architecture offers a NAAB accredited five-year Bachelor of Architecture degree and an interdisciplinary PhD in Comparative Studies in Design, Aesthetics and the Arts. In the near future, the school plans to launch a new Master of Science in Architecture with concentrations in Creative AI, Resilient Design, and Design Ethics. Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have a professional Master of Architecture (M.Arch), a combination of a professional B.Arch and a post-professional Master of Architecture or Master of Science degree, or a PhD in their area of specialization. Additionally, each candidate is required to be an actively practicing licensed architect, with extensive professional experience. Preferred Qualifications: Experience teaching integrative and comprehensive design studios is desired.
