Assistant Professor of Social Work
The School of Social Work at the University of Maine seeks applicants for a full-time, academic-year, tenure-track, Assistant Professor position. The candidate will teach and advise in the undergraduate and graduate social work programs and establish an independent research program. This is a 75% teaching and 25% research position. Responsibilities will include teaching, student advising, research, and providing expertise to the state and UMaine community in social work. With an initial appointment of 75% teaching and 25% research, the successful candidate will teach in the Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Social Work programs in both live and online settings. They will provide academic advisement to both undergraduate and graduate students and engage in service to the School, University, and profession. The faculty member will teach courses central to the school’s curriculum, and formal teaching responsibilities will include contributions to undergraduate and graduate programs. Potential classes include undergraduate courses in practice and policy, graduate classes in human behavior in the social environment, micro practice, policy, and internship seminars. In addition, the successful candidate for this position is expected to take a leadership role in mentoring students in hands-on learning activities, ensuring that our educational programs remain vibrant, rigorous, and competitive. Participation in student recruiting efforts is also expected. The candidate will engage in social work or social welfare scholarship, including publishing and securing external funding. We seek a scholar with the training and motivation to conduct independent research on social issues of societal importance in Maine and beyond. We seek a colleague willing to conduct research and provide guidance to the state on issues related to social welfare and social work. The preferred start date for this academic-year position is January 1, 2025, but an August 1, 2025 or September 1, 2025 start date may be negotiable.
