The goal of the UT language programs is to prepare students for 21st century jobs by focusing on the skills that employers prioritize, including effective oral and written communication, critical thinking, collaborative teamwork, and sophisticated analytical skills. We engage our students in a transformative education of discovery, creativity and reflection. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in Dual Language Education, Second Language Pedagogy, and/or Generalist Spanish that is appropriate to the institution's ambitious "open, inclusive, comprehensive, polytechnic" mission. Further, the ideal candidate will have experience designing, overseeing, and assessing the Spanish curriculum. Utah Tech University (UT) is part of the State Bridge Program for Advanced Language Learning, teaching 3000-level Spanish courses to high school students who have passed AP as early as in 9th grade. This program creates a true K-16 language immersion program across the state (also known as the Utah Model). Responsibilities + Teach a combination of 24 credits of Spanish courses per academic year, including lower and upper division courses plus the equivalent of three credit hours or more in institutional service as defined by the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. In the first few years of the appointment, the teaching load will be reduced to allow time for curriculum refinement and program administration/student recruitment. + Assist Department Chair, Dean, and other faculty in the program and department on curriculum and program development. + Develop Study Abroad programs. + Be the liaison for UT in Spanish Bridge courses, working with other state universities as well as Washington School District. + Assist in mentoring and assisting part-time instructors. + Assist in assessment process through the curriculum. + Serve on college, division, and departmental committees as assigned. + Advise students on general education and discipline specific requirements. + Attend department, division and faculty meetings, work with other faculty in program management, and adhere to university policies. + Develop and maintain a research agenda appropriate to a teaching university. Scholarship that involves student co-researchers and/or informs the candidate’s teaching is especially valued. + Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications + Doctorate degree in Spanish, or Language Education and Multilingualism from an accredited college or university. ABD candidates will be considered but Ph.D. must be completed by December 31, 2025. Tenure-track status is dependent upon completion of the doctoral degree; if the selected candidate is ABD, she/he/they will be appointed as an Acting Asst. Professor with salary adjusted to match that rank. + OPI Advanced High or higher in Spanish prior to hiring date. + Preferences given to those candidates with a minimum of three years teaching Spanish at the college level and/ or those familiar with Utah’s Bridge Program. + Successful teaching experience at the college of university level required (finalists will be asked to give a teaching demonstration as part of the interview process). + Experience with curriculum development. + Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability in oral and written communication in both English and Spanish. + An eagerness to engage with colleagues, staff, and administrators to develop ways to improve the educational experience of our students and help update the Spanish curriculum. + Demonstrated ability to continually engage in research by learning new skills, tools, and practices adopted by the professional and academic communities. + Strong oral and written communication skills. Supplemental Information POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:Full-time (9-month) tenure-track faculty position. Faculty service begins August 2025, with pay and benefits starting July 1, 2025. Annual salary of $60,000-$63,500 depending on qualifications and experience, with additional compensation available for optional summer/overload teaching.
