Position Summary:
The Department of Special Education (DSE) in the College of Education (COE) at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) is seeking an Assistant Professor of Special Education to join our dynamic, student-centered faculty. The position of tenure-track Assistant Professor focusing on the ABA specialization is designed to provide the Department of Special Education with an emerging expert in the field that will collaborate with department faculty to solicit grant funding, conduct research, and publish peer-reviewed articles, as well as being a contributing member in the teaching of courses and service to the department, college, university, the field, and community. We are seeking a researcher that can support our efforts to become a Research 1 university and provide valuable input, given the dramatic increases in enrollment in the Special Education M.Ed. program. The Assistant Professor will teach courses focused primarily at the master’s and doctoral level on the ABA specialization (e.g., Applied Behavior Analysis, Behavior Change and Management Strategies, Behavior Analytic Teaching, Behavior Assessment and Intervention Selection, Advanced Applied Behavior Analysis, Ethics in ABA, and Behavior Analytic Supervision & Management).
Responsibilities For this tenure-track position, we seek an applicant that can develop a strong record of research, teaching, and service. It is anticipated that an effective applicant will actively engage in publishing peer-reviewed articles, solicitation of external grant funding, and presentation at local, national, and international conferences.
In terms of instruction, the applicant will enhance, develop, and teach courses primarily for students in the M.Ed. and Ph.D. ABA specialization programs. This candidate must have the knowledge, skills, and disposition to teach across a variety of platforms (e.g., face-to-face, hybrid, synchronous, and asynchronous online). This candidate will also assist with preparing reports or responses to teacher preparation, the Association for Behavior Analysis International®, Behavior Analyst Certification Board®, and other mandates (e.g., Florida Department of Education candidate completion rates, University Intellectual Foundations Program reporting) and collaborating with special education faculty to revise course and curriculum content as necessary.
The new hire will work to promote the mission and goals of the Department, College, University, by participating in faculty meetings and assigned department committees, and working collaboratively and ethically with other faculty, staff, and students.

Florida Atlantic University is classified as a “high research activity” institution and is on track to reach Research 1 university status in 2025. In 2017, FAU was designated a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI). There are approximately 30,000 students and more than 6,500 faculty and staff. Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must have:
• Earned doctorate in Special Education or a closely related field by August 1, 2025;
• A minimum of three years of practical and effective teaching experience as a special educator with students in grades PK-12 or as an implementer of behavior analytic treatment in the home, school, and/or clinical setting;
• Emerging evidence of scholarly activity (e.g., publications, conference presentations) and external funding potential;
• Ability to effectively teach and supervise students using innovative instructional approaches, methods, and technologies to deliver instruction across formats (e.g., eLearning, hybrid courses);
Preferred Qualifications
• Hold a BCBA or BCBA-D certification or have taught behavior analytic coursework
• Experience teaching in face-to-face and online environments;
• An emerging record of engagement in professional service and community engagement activities that align with the advancement of the field of special education.
