Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities: The ideal candidate will bring a broad and inclusive perspective of urban education and play a pivotal role in supporting two innovative programs in the Cato College of Education- the Masters of Education (M.Ed.) in Urban Education and the Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction in Urban Education, while also supporting the department’s teacher licensure programs, as needed. Our programs aim to prepare future teachers and education professionals who deeply understand the critical issues necessary to effect transformative change in urban communities. Faculty in this department have the opportunity to inform curriculum, guide students’ intellectual growth, engage in innovative research, and foster active learning environments. The selected applicant is expected to serve on Masters capstone projects and doctoral committees; maintain scholarly productivity in research, publications, and presentations; obtain external funds to support research activities; provide service to the field and profession; and participate in Program, Department, College, and University governance.
Minimum Experience / Education:
UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.
Preferred Education Skills and Experience:
Required Qualifications:
+ Earned Ph.D. (earned by May 2025) in an appropriate field such as urban education, curriculum and instruction, and/or a related field from an accredited university.
+ Evidence of a strong commitment to teaching, advising, and mentoring students at the undergraduate, Master’s, and Ph.D. levels.
+ Evidence of a deep understanding, and knowledge, of critical issues in urban education.
+ Post-secondary teaching experience (face-to-face and online).
+ Evidence of an active research agenda and record of scholarship (e.g., published and/or works in progress).
+ Understanding and commitment to the mission of the university, college, and department.
+ Ability to work collegially with others, including faculty, staff, and students.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Teaching experience in an urban school context.
+ Grant-writing experience.
+ Experience establishing community partnerships.
+ Demonstrated efforts in advocacy of student success.
