No If Temporary, enter End Date: Position Summary The Physical Education Department at the State University of New York at Cortland (SUNY Cortland) seeks to hire an assistant professor in their teacher education program.
The Department has over 900 undergraduate students and over 75 graduate students working towards initial and professional teacher certification. Department faculty are dedicated teachers, productive scholars, and engaged members of the campus community with strong pedagogical backgrounds.
The successful candidate will join a large and dynamic Physical Education program with a long history training physical education teachers. The department currently serves more than 900 undergraduate students and approximately 75 graduate students. We have concentrations in adapted physical activity and outdoor education. The department seeks an assistant professor to teach in one or more of the following areas: Teach undergraduate and graduate level physical education courses. The teaching assignment will depend on the department needs, expertise, and experience of the faculty. Some area of need currently includes EDU 470 Foundations of Education in American Culture (writing intensive course), PED 201 Motor Development, EDU 255 Basic of Effective Instruction in Physical Education, EDU 355 Physical Education Curriculum, Planning, and Practice, PED 434 Statistics & Assessment in Physical Education, and PED 382 School-Based Fitness Programing. Advisement of undergraduate physical education majors.
Scholarship/Research Engage in scholarly work and activities as appropriate to the application and receipt of continuing appointment (tenure) and promotion at SUNY Cortland.
ServiceProvide service to the Physical Education Department, the School of Professional Studies, The SUNY Cortland campus community and/or the State University of New York at Cortland and the profession.
Functional and Supervisory Relationships Reports to the academic department chair Works closely with department faculty Required Qualifications Education: Doctorate degree (or ABD with expected complete date within one year of appointment). Bachelor’s or master’s degree in physical education or related field. College or K – 12 teaching experience
Preferred Qualifications Certified to teach in K-12 schools. Experience working with diverse populations. Expertise in physical education pedagogy. Expertise in an additional area such as: effective instruction, statistics and assessment, motor development, fitness programming, technology in PE, elementary/secondary physical education, or curricular design in physical education.
