Assistant Project Manager
*** FULL TIME, SALARIED POSITION WITH BENEFITS *** Job Summary Working under the supervision of the Project Manager (PM), the Assistant Project Manager is part of a team responsible for coordinating the complete construction and administrative requirements of the various heavy civil construction projects (roads, wet utilities, excavations, and bridges). The Assistant Project Manager will interface with the superintendent, foremen, project managers, subcontractors and client representatives to ensure a high-quality final project is delivered on time, on budget, according to specifications and with work being done in a safe manner. Duties & Responsibilities + Reviews and analyzes project specifications; performs field inspections to verify quantities, quality of work, and verify compliance. + Prepares reports and correspondence as directed. + Works with field supervision to review/update Job Status Reports and modifies schedules or plans as required. + Participates in meetings for project specific scheduling, budgeting, and planning with supervisors. Assists with two-week look ahead. + Works effectively and respectfully with other project team members to ensure project success. Resolves conflict professionally. + Tracks/may generate submittals; may respond to Requests for Information (RFI’s). + Identifies, tracks and obtains approval for all change orders and claims; follows-up on approval and communicates to project team. + Generates subcontracts requisitions and processes vendor invoices for payment; tracks payment schedule. + Provides timely billing for projecting and tracking payment schedule. + Assists PM with managing and scheduling subcontractors and other vendors ; assists with updating project schedule. + Assists PM and Superintendent with monitoring job costs and production versus budget. Under supervision of PM, provides inputs and submits accurate and timely monthly cost, income, cash flow projections, and generating client billings. + Complies with underground utility notifications and locations (i.e. Miss Utility, etc.). + Organizes project files. + Follows company procedures and policies. Qualifications + Able to do detailed work and make effective decisions to maintain production, quality and safety under pressure/deadlines. Responds quickly to issues. Anticipates potential challenges. + Able to handle emergency situations, work pressure and stress. + Able to manage time effectively while dealing with competing priorities. + Able to work with minimum supervision. + Able to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people in English (verbal, aural, written), including writing routing reports and correspondence. Must be able to present information effectively in meetings. PREFERRED: English/Spanish bilingual. + Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts and solve problems. + Able to work additional hours and non-traditional work shifts (evenings, weekends) as needed to meet project demands. + Proficient in use of computers (desktop/laptop/tablet), smart phone, and related software. + Proficient with Microsoft Windows and MS Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) + Proficient with CPM scheduling software (Primavera, MS-Project) and project management software, such as Procore, HCSS/HeavyJob, or similar. PREFERRED: Experience with construction accounting systems, such as Foundation. + Familiar with materials, methods, equipment, safety/environmental requirements of civil construction. + Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in Civil Engineering. PREFERRED: One year of prior experience. + Able to use a wide variety of mathematical concepts - plane/solid geometry, trigonometry, arithmetic, ratios and fractions. + Able to understand financial and performance concepts (profit, cost, productivity, etc.) + Able to understand plans and specifications, as well as other technical information in mathematical or diagram format. + Able to read and interpret documents and procedures, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. + Under PM’s supervision, may provide clarification on contract documents and specifications. + Must be willing to sign a confidentiality agreement; be subject to drug testing requirements (including – but not limited to – pre-employment drug tests). + Must be willing to submit to a background check before and during employment.
