Job Description
We are searching for an Assistant Project Manager to join our team and support projects around the southeast Detroit to Ann Arbor area. These projects will consist of electrical transmission work and will be located within a 45 to 60-minute radius from our office. The candidate will be expected to handle multiple small projects simultaneously and will progressively be exposed to more diverse project types as they gain experience.
ResponsibilitiesAssist with the development of common systems and processes for proper accounting, reporting of project costs, customer billing, scheduling, material procurement, subcontractors, record keeping, documentation, and budgeting.Assist with the development and tracking of key performance and financial metrics to optimize performance, productivity, and reduce costs.Assist in the preparation of proposals and estimates, including drawing take-offs.Work with the Project Manager to set up job structure from the start, including safety, scheduling, document control plan, cost codes, job cost spread, material/tooling plan, equipment, billing, etc.Assist in job hand-off from estimating to field project supervision.Work with purchasing on material orders and required submittals.Travel to project sites on a regular basis.Provide weekly updates on project progress to the Project Manager.Assist with the quotation of change orders from drawing changes, RFIs, etc.Work with the Project Manager to assist with the monthly financial bridge, job forecasts, and write up monthly reports.Work with customer and field management on schedule development and assist in maintaining it during the course of the project.Ensure the project has adequate resources to maintain schedule, budget, and exceed safety expectations.Interact with customers on projects to foster positive long-term relationships.Ensure billing is submitted timely along with payment follow-through.Essential SkillsExperience in construction, project management, and document control.Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).Ability to document information accurately.Eagerness to learn and develop project management skills.Ability to work in construction utility space.Good organization skills, detail-oriented, and ability to multi-task.Additional Skills & QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Business Administration, or Civil Engineering.0-4 years of experience working on construction projects as a project coordinator, project engineer, or project manager.Experience with Construction Management software such as Procore or Bluebeam is a major plus.Passion for construction and utilities.Nice to have experience in electrical utility (distribution, transmission, substation).Work Environment
The position requires travel to local construction sites within an hour from the office, more than 1-3 days a week. The office has four floors with updated interiors, windows on the exterior, parking on both sides of the building, and a kitchen with a coffee maker. There are plenty of food options within easy driving distance from the office. Office hours are from 8-5 during winters and 7-4 during summers.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $33.65 - $36.06/hr.
