The National Probation Service (NPS), Reading County Councils have partnered with St Andrew’s Healthcare to deliver Community Sentence treatment Requirements as part of a Mental Health Treatment Requirement (MHTR) initiative. This is a unique opportunity to work as an assistant psychologist embedded in probation offices under the guidance and supervision of qualified psychologists from St Andrew's Healthcare.

Within this role you will support and enhance the professional psychological care of clients within the Criminal Justice System (CJS); providing psychological assessment and psychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist, working independently according to a plan agreed with the psychologist and within the overall framework MHTRs, and St Andrew’s policies and procedures.

Due to the autonomy of the role, it is desirable that applicants have some experience working as an Assistant Psychologist before and a relevant Master’s degree in psychology or relevant work experience. It is a requirement that they are eligible for Graduate Membership of the British Psychological Society.

The role will be located across Berkshire, and will be delivered out Probation Offices in Reading and East Berkshire. Travel outside of Berkshire is reimbursed separately and is typically required for training.

You will facilitate effective communication within the NPS and other agencies that may include: primary care services, specialist mental health services, social care and third sector services to ensure continuity of care across all services.

“Our patients and your colleagues will expect you to live the St Andrew’s CARE values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence every single day.”
