What We Want
The Assistant Research Scientist is responsible for assisting researchers who use complex high-performance computing resources for advanced computing purposes; working on technical oversight on projects; supporting collaborative research studies; training users on high-performance computing resources; supporting regional and national collaborations; and serving as an investigator on grant applications.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
+ PhD in computer science, or related physical science or engineering field that uses research computing approaches.
+ 1-3 years’ of experience supporting research using HPC technologies, and teaching HPC material to students and researcher.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ Excellent oral, writing, and interpersonal communication skills.
+ Ability to work independently and manage multiple task loads.
+ Ability to work on team projects and work cooperatively with others.
+ Ability to collaborate, learn continuously and be adaptable.
Preferred Education and Experience
+ PhD in a field of study that applies computational approaches.
+ Six to ten years of research experience that includes aspects of leadership and mentorship.
+ Excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills.
+ Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, Fortran, Matlab, C, C++, CUDA, OpenACC, with the ability to learn others as needed.
+ Familiarity with tools, and techniques used in scientific computing Proficient in using the LINUX/UNIX operating systems.
+ Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
+ Ability to travel both nationally and internationally.
+ Certification on HPC or cloud platforms.
+ Certification on Deep Learning and AI/ML frameworks.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
+ PhD in a field of study that applies computational approaches.
+ Six to ten years of research experience that includes aspects of leadership and mentorship.
+ Excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills.

+ Works to cover shifts, or take emergency call, on evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
+ Occasionally may be required to work outside of normal working hours and weekends, may require some domestic travel.
+ Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, Fortran, C++, or CUDA, with the ability to learn others as needed.
+ Proficient in using the LINUX/UNIX operating systems.
+ Familiarity with scientific applications common to research computing environments.
+ Familiarity with popular analysis toolkits such as R, Python frameworks, and Matlab.
+ Familiarity with AI/ML frameworks such as, Pytorch.
+ Familiarity with organizing information and data management services.
+ Experience in developing partnerships and collaborations.
+ Demonstrate project management and coordination capabilities.
+ Demonstrate an ability to write scientific, general purpose, and technical documents.
Responsibilities
+ Consulting, Proposal Participation, And Dissemination: Provides technical leadership and expertise to the facility’s user community in the computational aspects of their research through intensive consulting, training and general support activities, all aiming at integrating HPC technologies into research. Supports and participates in activities aimed toward the pursuit of extramural funding. Responds to user queries regarding research computing resources. Supports funded efforts at HPRC. Travel to conferences and events at times.
+ Office Operations, Outreach and Training: Participates in mentoring, training, and development of HPRC users and employees. Analyses and benchmarks scientific applications. Assists in the installation/maintenance of high-performance computing software on various operating systems. Provides training courses on research computing techniques to staff and users. Aids in the development of ad-hoc programs for customers of high-performance computing resources. Participates in HPRC’s community outreach efforts.
+ Research: Conducts self-guided research in topics relevant to research computing. Presents findings at conferences and through publications in proceedings and professional journals. Pursues external funding opportunities. Presents research-findings via publications and conference presentations.
+ Standards And Procedures Administration: Develops standards and oversee the implementation of procedures to facilitate research on research computing resources.Updates the research-computing knowledge-base to keep our users abreast with the latest technologies.
