The Assistant Research Scientist is responsible for conducting independent research into their field of expertise. The Assistant Research Scientist will utilize techniques and strategies taught to them by their education and experiences to work towards solving the question presented by their research project; writes and may contribute to research papers, articles, and publications; assists with the preparation and cleaning of worksite; may collaborate with other researchers and/or faculty.

Required Education and Experience
+ Appropriate PhD and relevant professional experience
Preferred Qualifications
+ PhD degree in a science-related field and at least 3-5 years of experience in a research laboratory environment where advanced techniques in molecular and cellular biology, flow cytometry and biochemistry were used
+ 4-5 years' experience with flow cytometry assay design, data acquisition, and data analysis
+ Knowledge to use FlowJo analysis software, Microsoft Excel, Power Point and Word software

Responsibilities
+ Research: Will be responsible for conducting independent research into their field of expertise. Utilizes knowledge and skills granted to them by their education and experience to complete research projects in their field of expertise. Assists with the preparation and cleaning of worksite. Analyzes research data and summarizes results. Writes and may contribute to research papers, articles, and publications. Assists with grant acquisition.
+ Mentoring/Supervision: May assist student researchers, Postdoctoral Associate Researchers, and/or graduate students who are working on research related to the project.
+ Presentations: Prepares presentation materials on research topic that may be presented to small and/or large groups. Actively participates in the preparation of required technical progress reports to research sponsors.
+ Flow Cytometry Core Facility Manager: Assists in the daily operations of our flow cytometry core facility including but not limited to instrument maintenance and troubleshooting, ordering lab supplies, biosafety compliance, and scheduling and billing users in iLab. Provides analytical flow cytometry and cell sorting services to facility users. Assists our flow core users with experimental design and data interpretation as needed. Responsible for developing various immune-oncology assays for our collaborators’ projects as needed for our high-throughput flow cytometry core facility funded by our CPRIT grant. Works in conjunction with Facilities and Center Labs on new projects along with pending work orders to ensure limited down time.
