Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Assistant Research Technician.
The Assistant Research Technician reports directly to the Assistant Director Research Lab Operations Research Support Services. Responsible for performing advanced lab duties under general supervision as well as more advanced duties under direct supervision. Assists senior and supervisory technicians in all procedures. Works under general direction. Demonstrates knowledge of the organizations Service Standards and incorporates them into the performance of duties.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Basic Research Support duties under general or direct supervision
2. Daily collection of used glassware and pipettes from labs
3. Clean dry and sterilize glassware according to instructions
4. Maintain glassware labeling according to instructions
5. Hand washing of specialty items not fit for washing machine
6. Return clean glassware to labs
7. Leave neat work area following completion of daily activities
8. Sweep and wash washroom shelves furniture and appliances
9. Place orders for sufficient supplies necessary in wash room check delivery for accuracy of quantity and type of items ordered
10. Participate in Small Instrument fleet equipment workflow
11. Provide equipment usage training to researchers when requested
12. Responsible for preparation and quality control of standard culture media in designated media preparation facility Implement established SOPs and develop new protocols and procedures conduct QC of the media
13. Preparation of customized media and solutions on request
14. Maintain adequate stocks of supplies and chemicals to ensure uninterrupted services
15. Keep records of production sales inventory and turnover of reagents and media
16. Become proficient in the use of iLab for all areas in reagent preparation
17. Provides training and guidance to junior level lab staff
18. Participates and performs other related duties as required
COMMUNICATION AND RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS
1. Excels in cooperation collaboration and communication with all NYULH employees
2. May communicate directly with PIs and other scientists coordinates delivery of results to outside collaborators also
3. Communicates carefully with others in order to respond appropriately to answer questions and obtains requested information
4. Communicates ideas problems suggestions and messages in a timely and effective manner
5. Maintains the confidentiality of all research information
JUDGEMENT / DECISION MAKING
1. Is able to recognize problems as they occur and through the application of appropriate policy/procedure determines and/or recommends the appropriate solution
2. Must be able to troubleshoot
3. Seeks guidance as necessary for the performance of duties; asks appropriate questions when in doubt and utilizes reference sources/materials to ensure accuracy
4. Advises appropriate personnel of situations/problems requiring intervention or follow up attention
Minimum Qualifications:
This is an entry level trainee position with no experience necessary and a Bachelor s of Science Degree in Life Sciences or a related field is preferred.
Strong written and verbal communication skills are required
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Must be able to manage competing priorities with close attention to details.
Excellent interpersonal written and oral communication skills required
Will train as needed
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $43,800.00 - $45,000.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
